KTM brings an even sharper 1290 Super Duke. There will only be 500 copies of the double RR Herzog. And they are all already sold.

KTM is diversifying its 1290 series even further, with an even sharper version of the 1290 Duke R. The version baptized RR brings less weight and a further optimized chassis.

9 kilos down, limited to 500 copies

From the more radicalized naked bike brings KTM only 500 copies among the traveling people. If you want one of these in Europe, you have to pre-order the machine via an exclusive online reservation portal from April 8, 2021.

The new 1290 Super Duke RR is based on the Super Duke R and is what you get when you give the research and development department a free hand. By simply omitting it and adding various lightweight components, the weight of the 1290 drops by 9 to just 180 kilograms. With an output of 180 hp and a maximum torque of 140 Nm, this results in a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp per kilogram.

The wheels have been saved – in weight: new 7-spoke forged wheels weigh 1.5 kilograms less. The Michelin Power Cup2 tires are designed to provide even more grip. When it comes to spring elements, KTM reaches into the premium shelf: At the front, the 1290 Super Duke RR uses a fully adjustable WP Apex Pro 7548 close cartridge fork together with an adjustable WP Apex Pro 7117 steering damper. At the rear, an Apex Pro 7746 strut takes over. The fork bridge comes from the Factory program.

The rear is also new. The solo seat and the rear frame underneath are made from carbon fiber laminate. A fresh LED rear light integrates the indicators and an adaptive brake light. Other features of the RR include a short-stroke throttle, carbon body parts, an adjustable ratchet system, milled hand levers, a lithium-ion battery, an Akrapovic rear silencer made of titanium with a carbon end cap. Optionally, there is also a sports exhaust system from the Slovenes that cannot be approved.

Around 25,000 euros – but already sold out

All available control and assistance systems are standard on board – some of them have been specially adapted for the RR. There are five driving modes available (Street, Sport, Rain, Performance and Track). The price for the Super Duke RR is as exclusive as the edition: KTM charges 24,995 euros. That doesn’t bother Super Duke fans worldwide. All 500 copies were sold within a very short time. Just 48 minutes after opening the reservation hotline, the spook was over. As a consolation for all those who missed out: the standard 1290 Duke R costs 17,834 euros.

Conclusion

A further tightened 1290 Duke R is sure to find its fans. But then wouldn’t it be time to translate the MotoGP successes into a new production super bike? Gladly based on the 1290 Duke RR.
