KTM opened a plant in the Philippines in June 2017. The KTM 200 Duke and KTM 390 Duke and their sports offshoots, the KTM RC 200 and KTM RC 390, were initially produced there. Now the 790 KTMs are to follow.

So far, four of the most important road models of the Austrian brand have been produced in the production facility in the Philippines: the 200 and 390 Duke and their sports offshoots RC 200 and 390. The KTMs built in the plant a few kilometers south of the capital Manila are currently only available to buyers shipped in Asia. For the opening of the plant in June 2017, quantities of up to 6,000 small dukes a year were initially planned. As a result, production in the Philippines should then be ramped up to around 10,000 motorcycles per year.

790 for the Asian market

In June 2020 KTM has now announced that more powerful motorcycles will also be manufactured in the plant in the Philippines. In order to underline the company’s global orientation, the KTM 790 Adventure, KTM 790 Adventure R and the KTM 790 Duke will also be produced in the Philippines in the future. So far, the three 790 bikes have only been used in Austria. Unsurprisingly, this decision should reduce the company’s costs in the long run. At the same time, the models mentioned should find their way to the Asian market, where the 790 KTMs can be offered comparatively cheaply thanks to lower production costs and the lack of transport costs.

It is not entirely clear whether the 790 models manufactured in the Philippines are intended exclusively for delivery in Asia, but it is very likely. Although there are also KTM models made in Asia that are coming to Europe, 390 Duke will be produced & Co. built near Bajaj in India.
