KTM has presented the two teams for the MotoGP season 2021. In the works team, Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira will start for the Austrians. Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona grab the handlebars for the Tech 3 satellite team. There is a tie when it comes to material – all four pilots compete with identical machines. Dani Pedrosa continues to act as a test driver.

In its fifth MotoGP season, KTM hopes to beat fourth place in the 2020 season constructors’ championship and further increase its total of three pole positions, nine podium positions and three wins. With this track record, the Austrians are now on an equal footing with the Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati teams. Accordingly, engine development on the RC16 must be stopped and the scope of testing for the regular drivers reduced.

Tech3 with a more KTM look

The factory machines from Binder and Oliveira continue to wear the Red Bull look, the Tech3 machines now have a lot more orange, as Red Bull, as a sponsor, bakes smaller rolls here and therefore the KTM color comes into play. The contract between KTM and Tech3 is only running for this year, but it can be assumed that it will be extended. KTM has already committed to its future in the MotoGP class.

“So it’s amazing to look back and see where we have come. I definitely don’t want to classify us as contenders for the title just yet. I think that pressure should still be on other guys in the paddock, but we are really very happy that the dream with these GP wins has come true. You are a fact. They’re on paper and we’re definitely hungry for more”, explains KTM motorsport director Pit Beirer at the team presentation.

Conclusion

KTM had its highlights in MotoGP in 2020. In 2021 it will be necessary to prove that you can maintain the high level and continue to win. You don’t see yourself as a contender for the title yet, but you want to be better than fourth place in the team standings. And of course more racing victories are also expected.
