KTM Motohall world of experience
Probably not a museum

The KTM Motohall opened its doors in spring 2019 and since then has been offering a world of experiences relating to the Austrian brand. According to an expert opinion, it is probably not a museum after all.

In the KTM Motohall visitors can immerse themselves in the world of KTM. The brand, technology and history of KTM are presented in the state-of-the-art exhibition on three levels. So far so good. What was discussed loudly in the Austrian media, but only very few in Germany heard: the total of 6.7 million euros in funding for the KTM Motohall. Part of it, more precisely 1.8 million, came from the culture budget. Since the subsidies for cultural workers were drastically cut in roughly the same period (2018), with the argument of a lack of financial resources, disputes were raised about whether the Motohall, which KTM had declared as a museum, could even be considered as such. “It could not be called a museum in any way, not even a company museum, as there is no historical embedding or connections to technical developments outside the KTM brand,” such an economic historian from the Austrian daily newspaper ‘Der Standard’ at the end of August 2019 was quoted. We have the information that the case is being investigated by the State Audit Office and that the audit report will be available in June 2020 Article from the standard mid February 2020 taken.

Show workshop, models and shop

In the 9,500 square meter KTM Motohall, which stands for around 28 million euros in the heart of Mattighofen, there is an exhibition training workshop as well as a 400 square meter event hall and various conference rooms. An underground car park offers 136 parking spaces, there is plenty of two-wheeled parking space in front of the house and there is also an independent restaurant on the other side of the street. The oval shape of the building should be reminiscent of a race track, the hole pattern in the facade of tire prints from motocross tires.

The exhibition areas are devoted to insights into the KTM brand, the techniques and the design. There are also plenty of exhibits from the company’s history to current models. There is also no shortage of merchandise – the range includes motorcycle clothing, T-shirts, caps, pacifiers and much more, of course everything with the KTM logo.
