15 weeks after the third upper arm operation, Marc Marquez underwent another medical check-up. The attending physicians spoke of a good cure, but advised the eight-time world champion against starting a race. In view of the current state of bone healing, one does not want to rush into anything and do not want to take the risk of exposing the upper arm to the stress of a racing weekend.

Marquez had recently intensified his training and for the first time trained again on racetracks with a Honda RC213V-S.

Comeback only at run 3

“After the most recent medical check-up, the doctors advised me that the most sensible thing to do was not to attend the Qatar GP and instead continue with the rehab plan that we have been following for the past few weeks”, confirmed Marc Marquez. “I would have loved to have taken part in the World Cup opener, but we have to keep working to restore the optimal conditions that will enable us to get back to the competition.”

The next medical examination was scheduled for April 12, 2021. That is the Monday before the third round of the World Cup in Portugal. This means that Marquez is likely to miss the first two races in MotoGP. The Spaniard had already spoken on his social media channels about missing the first two races.

Conclusion

Marc Marquez will have to skip the MotoGP season opener in Qatar and probably also the next race. A possible comeback could only take place in Portugal.
