The Marushin RS3 runs under the label “Premium Line” for the Japanese brand. It costs from 279 euros (299 euros multi-colored). We tested it on a day trip over 400 kilometers.

With its 1,250 grams (+/- 50 grams, depending on the helmet size) it counts Marushin RS3 in the price range between 270 and 300 euros compared to the lightweight full-face helmets. It comes with a double-D closure, pinlock device, ventilation slots on the front of the chin and on the top of the head.

In the Samurai white / red version tested here, it costs 299 euros, and it is available in one color for 279 euros. Dark visor and pinlock can be ordered as options. Two fiberglass helmet shells are available for sizes from XS to XXL, which is common in this price range. The other variations in terms of size are configured via the interior.

On the inside: The head and cheek pads are removable and washable. According to the manufacturer, the moisture absorption should be good and the upholstery – if sweaty – should dry quickly. At 18 degrees on the test drive, we didn’t really work up a sweat under our helmets. But this can also be due to the effective ventilation. It was getting a bit drafty around the ears. One likes it, the other can’t need it – that’s really a matter of taste. Important and positive to emphasize: Despite generous ventilation, nothing pulls directly into the eyes.

In total, we drove the Marushin RS3 over 400 kilometers – on a naked bike with touring screen – and collected the following additional impressions:

+ pleasantly light
+ Double D chinstrap
+ no unpleasant hum under the helmet. However, this often depends on the wind protection, motorcycle fairing, seating position, upper body length of the driver, etc..
+ no uncomfortable whistling
+ pleasant bulge for the ears – even when driving with glasses, headphones or hearing protection)
+ good aerodynamics, no “bull’s neck”
+ good field of vision
+ no visor fogging (tested with Pinlock)
+ Chic, puristic look

– Padding could be a tad softer
– Adjustment of the ventilation on the chin only inside, slider very small too
– Control buttons for upper ventilation are very small and difficult to feel through gloves

Conclusion

For the price range, the Marushin RS3 delivers an all-round solid package: It is relatively light, comes with a secure double-D lock, a good field of vision and a neat aerodynamic shape. If you are looking for a full-face helmet for less than 300 euros and do not attach much importance to weight-accumulating bells and whistles such as sun visors, you should take a closer look at the new RS3 or try it on. Because, as always, with motorcycle helmets: it has to fit. No matter how good a helmet, if it doesn’t fit on your head, it’s not your helmet.
