From 2019 Triumph will supply 765 cc three-cylinder units as standard engines for the Moto2 World Championship. Over 30 bikes will then start with the new engine in the next season.

As of the 2019 Grand Prix season, the previous 600cc four-cylinder from Honda has served its purpose as a standard engine in Moto2. He gives way to a Triumph three-cylinder. The new racing engines are based on the current engine Street Triple RS with 765 cm³, are of course adapted, revised and made more powerful for Moto2 use.

The new Moto2 drives from Great Britain will differ from the Street Triple RS engine in, among other things:

• modified cylinder heads with revised inlet and outlet ports for optimal flow behavior
• Titanium valves and harder valve springs, adapted to the higher speed level
• Alternators with a lower mass
• longer translation of the first gear
• an adjustable anti-hopping clutch specially developed for racing
• a special racing engine control developed by Magneti Marelli
• Revised side covers for a smaller overall width
• a modified oil pan, which enables optimized routing of the exhaust manifold

The contract will initially run for three years

In the series standard of the Street Triple, the engine has 123 hp. For the Moto2 interpretation, Triumph specifies over 140 hp. The lap record was promptly broken during the first Moto2 test drives in Jerez.

The Triumph assignment contractually agreed with Dorna is initially limited to three years. Racing fans can already look forward to the very own goosebumps sound of the Triples.

Silverstone presentation fell into the water

The first driving presentation in front of an audience was planned as part of the MotoGP Silverstone 2018. Since the entire race was canceled due to heavy rain and the bumps in the new surface, the current Moto2 development motorcycle with the Triumph engine was also not allowed on the track.
