The Motorcycle Industry Council reports for 2018: eight percent of all US households own at least one motorcycle. That is a new record.

Eight percent of all households in the US own at least one motorcycle. More precisely 1.3 motorcycles. In 2014 there were 1.23 motorcycles, in the record year 2009 the average was 1.53 motorcycles.

In the previous year, a total of 13,158,100 motorcycles were owned by American households. However, only 12,231,000 of them were in operation. For comparison: The last record was broken in 2009 with 11,704,500 motorcycles owned by American households, of which 11,015,105 vehicles were in use. In 2018, US households owned almost 1.5 million more motorcycles than in 2009 and around 1.2 million more motorcycles in use than in 2009.

The percentage of motorcycles in use decreased from 96.1 percent in 2014 to 93 percent in 2018. With used motorcycles making up a larger proportion of the motorcycle population in the United States, it is not surprising that the percentage of motorcycles in use Motorcycles decreases slightly.
