Tour 1: Three-country tour

Right at the beginning a rich contrast program: speeding around curves in the Bavarian Forest, in the Bohemian Forest and in the Muhlviertel. From the base district in Rosenau it goes to Neuschonau to the Bavarian Forest National Park. After the village, at the T-junction, turn right towards Freyung, Mauth. Beautiful forest road with insights and views of the emerging forest wilderness in the national park. In Mauth turn right at the T-junction, then immediately left again towards Philippsreut. At Mitterfirmiansreuth you have a great view of the green peaks of the Bohemian Forest.

Do not turn right at the Philippsreut junction, but just follow the main road in the direction of “CZ to the B 12” and “Prague”. Continue on the B 12 in the direction of Prague, crossing the German-Czech border. You pass the small border town of Strážný with all sorts of Asian stalls and after the town take the first street on the right towards Česke Žleby. The narrow strip of asphalt leads through beautiful tree-lined avenues and a pleasant forest and meadow landscape without a center line or guardrail.

At the T-junction, turn left towards Volary and Lenora. At the Soumarský Most bridge, the road meets the main route to Volary. You turn right direction “Prachatice, Volary”. In Volary it goes again right from direction “Lipno, Český Krumlov, Černá Poš”. The road is narrow and winding with beautiful views along the ridge of the Bohemian Forest. Behind Pernek Canada ambience with a great view of the Vltava reservoir. At Černá you cross part of the Vltava reservoir. In the village then left direction “Česky Krumlov”.

The well-developed road leads quickly to Česky Krumlov, where you will be guided to the parking lots near the old town, which is absolutely worth seeing. The city center, which is surrounded by a loop of the Vltava, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. After sightseeing, head out of town towards Rožmberk and Viššy Brod. In Větrný, turn right onto the 162 direction (attention: the junction is easy to miss) “Frymburk, Lipno”.

The road is narrow and has relatively little traffic back to the Vltava reservoir. In Frymburk at the T-junction left (no signs), then immediately right, follow the signs for “Radnice” and “Hotel Vltava” to the center of the village. Past the church, straight ahead to the ferry (motorbike with driver 50 crowns, in the season every hour until 8 p.m. If you don’t want to wait for the ferry, first drive towards Viššy Brod, then after the dam immediately right towards Guglwald) to Pfiedmosti. Via Přední Výtoň to the Guglwald border crossing in Austria (address: “Guglwald, A.”).

After the border crossing at the T-crossing turn right towards St. Stefan. Nice curve route with a great panorama. Downhill via Sankt Stefan to the T-junction on the 38th. Then turn right to Haslach. Via Aigen and Ulrichsberg with a view of the Bohemian Forest border mountains across the Muhlviertel to Schwarzenberg and on over the Austrian-German border. The next stops are Riedelsbach, Neureichenau and Jandelsbrunn, where you can make a stop at the motorcycle museum. The way to Freyung is made via Bohmzwiesel and Grainet (signs “Freyung” consequences). From Freyung towards Grafenau via the B 533 and back to the starting point in Rosenau.

The base quarters
Rosenau is a central starting point for tours through the Bavarian Forest, into the Austrian Muhlviertel and into the Bohemian Forest to the Czech Republic. The small town is conveniently located at the foot of the Bohemian Forest border ridge, very close to the Bavarian Forest National Park, where you can also bike exciting-&-Can take hike tours. For shopping, the larger Grafenau is only five minutes away. In the area there are still the small, winding roads for leisurely discovery and cruising, but also the expressways that optimally connect larger towns and connect the Bavarian Forest to the A 3 in the Danube Valley. The relief of Germany’s second-highest low mountain range ensures that the roads are always very curvy.
