MOTORCYCLE tour tip – Ore Mountains

MOTORCYCLE tour tip – Ore Mountains
Along the German-Czech border ridge

Tour tip

Gold rush in Saxon. The name already reveals that the Erzgebirge was about iron ore, but also about other valuable mineral resources. As with the American gold rush, the remote mountains boomed in early industrial times. Back then without motorcycles. With them you can not only trace the exciting industrial culture today, but also very scenic routes in the Ore Mountains Nature Park.

  1. Oberwiesenthal lies at the foot of the Fichtelberg, the highest point in the Saxon Ore Mountains. Along the Czech border, lonely roads lure you to relaxed cruising through dense forest, which the Teutons Miriquidi – “dark forest” – called.
  2. Out of the woods again, curving through an open landscape and finding a historic mining town worth seeing in Schwarzenberg. The hungry offers the “De Gute Stub” A neat stop in the Ratskeller Schwarzenberg (www.ratskeller-schwarzenberg.de)
  3. The old mining town of Annaberg-Buchholz also tempts you to stop off in cozy places and in cozy alleys. The Frohnauer Hammer, located on the northern outskirts of the city, is an important technical monument and shows how water power was used for forging in the past. Simply cool!
  4. Zschopautal and Zschopau Kurvig, the little river Zschopau leads motorcyclists in a wonderfully winding narrow valley to the town of the same name, which was an early center of German motorcycle manufacture and where the indestructible MZ motorcycles were made in GDR times.
  5. Augustusburg A must for motorcyclists is the magnificent hunting lodge, where a well-known European winter meeting takes place and whose motorcycle museum is also one of the most important.

  1. Lonely stretches along the former Iron Curtain line the German-Czech border ridge – great for motorcycle discovery tours.
  2. Seiffen, the epitome of Erzgebirge craftsmanship and a tourist magnet, is good for a coffee stop. Around it, the towns of Neuhausen, Olbernhau, Deutscheinsiedel and Deutschneudorf mark an almost magical square of lonely motorcycle routes.
  3. The border river Natzschung / Načetínský potok has created a wonderfully curvy valley with probably one of the most beautiful motorcycle routes in the entire Ore Mountains. The border and the road meander very close to each other. Great driving experience!
  4. In Steinbach you thread into the beautiful Prebnitz valley, which is a wonderful route not only for motorbikes. The track of one of the most beautiful narrow-gauge steam railway lines in Saxony runs alongside the road.
  5. In the times of the mountain screams (a treasure hunt similar to the American gold rush), Johstadt was considered a boom town in the middle of the forest. The boom in this mining town is long over – fortunately, lonely motorcycle routes have remained. If you want to celebrate the end of a great tour, you can do so back in Oberwiesenthal: in the rustic log cabin “Prijut12” (www.prijut-12.de)
