Tour tip

The main attractions of the Ostalb are not of the tourist-sensational kind that travel guides like to list. It is similar with the routes: Those who turn often enough from small to even smaller roads will discover beautiful things.

Route

  1. You can get on the tour at many points. We started in Schnaitheim at the workshop of the scramblers who set up the two SRs. From Rotensohl a detour leads to a charcoal burner in the forest. From there it is not far via Kleinkuchen and Auernheim to Dischingen and Taxis Castle.
  2. From castle to Katzenstein castle and then on to Neresheim monastery, short stage, impressive building structure. No building structure at all, but on Sundays and public holidays there is a ban on driving through the Dossinger Valley, through which a narrow road leads to Dorfmerkingen. Via Unterriffingen it goes to the Bopfingen airfield with a great view of the Ries and the Ipf. There is also a go-kart track and a MTB downhill track at the airfield.
  3. To the north, Baldern Castle is the next stop on the way to the Buch reservoir. It could also be reached very quickly from Bopfingen via the B 29: swimming, pedal boating, snacks or the scattered legacies of the Romans, such as the Limes – depending on your preference. Then via Huttlingen, Onatsfeld, Heuchlingen, Mogglingen and Heubach west past Aalen to get to the beautifully hilly area south of Schwabisch Gmund. Orientation point: hamlet in the mountains. Curvy detour to the Drei-Kaiser-Berge between Waldstetten, Waschenbeuren and Eislingen / Fils.
  4. This is good for a break “Stables” in Lauterstein, the aforementioned detour also fits well from there. Otherwise, you can quickly return to Schnaitheim via the B 466 or meander along the small paths between Bohmenkirch, Bartholoma and Steinheim towards the starting point.
