MOTORCYCLE tour tip – Switzerland home route tour
From the Zurich Oberland via the Toggenburg

Tour tip

Optimal for tour planning: A local person has already scouted out the route and offers to take it on his own personal route. The voluntary tour guide explains with typically Swiss reluctance: “It’s not that bad, is it.” A merciless understatement, it turned out to be.

Switzerland with hidden tourist attractions – this tour leads on many rather unknown branch routes from the Zurich Oberland via Toggenburg (St. Gallen) to the Rhine Valley and back. The 2502 meter high Santis and the view of the Churfirsten from Lake Walen are considered alpine highlights. A bonus for country collectors: a flying visit to the Principality of Liechtenstein with surprising prospects.

route: 245 km / Travel time: 6-7 hours (with short breaks)

1. The starting point and base is the Landgasthof Adler in Gruningen. Through the Zurich Oberland it goes on side roads to the east to the excursion destination Atzmannig (summer toboggan run, chairlift to the Alp, restaurant). Small mountain roads lead down into the valley on the main route 8 near Ricken.

2. Continue through Toggenburg to the well-known hill climb route near Hemberg and continue for about 20 km to Santis. At the Gasthaus Passhohe in front of Schwagalp, when the weather is good, a lot of motorcyclists (typical Swiss food) Continue through Obertoggenburg (view to the right of the 2262 meter high summit from Chaserrugg) towards the Rhine Valley.

3. Possibly take a break in the medieval Werdenberg (historical center, castle), drive at Sevelen over the Rhine to Vaduz / Liechtenstein and up to Triesenberg. Great view of the principality from up there!

4. Leave Liechtenstein again at Balzers and take the Steigstrasse to Flasch through the vineyards. Then again over the Rhine to the west, over Sargans in the direction of Walensee. Parallel to Autobahn 3 on the toll-free branch line along the lake via Quarten and Filzbach and the Kerenzerbergpass to Nafels. At Berg (SG) the last delicacy is another side route: to Hiltisberg and back via Dachseggstrasse to the Zurich Oberland.
