The carousel from Gotthard, Nufenen and Furka is one of the classics of the Swiss Alpine passes. But isn’t that trite somehow? Always the old story? With a few ingredients, new flavor can be added to the familiar

On this tour, the classic Swiss passes are lined up one after the other. As a bonus, if not a highlight, there is also a detour to the Oberaar panorama road.

route: approx. 152 km / Travel time: approx. 5 hours (with breaks 8 hours)

The starting point is Innertkirchen at the northern foot of the Grimsel Pass. Orientation problem-free. Clean asphalt with narrowing curves to the top of the pass. Highlight: visit to the hydropower plant. From 30 sFr.

From the top of the pass down to Gletsch. Well-developed pass road. In Gletsch turn left onto Furka Street. After crossing the Furka cable car, first three serpentines, then more extensive to the ascent to the Rhône glacier. Photo stop. Road behind the top of the pass narrow and in tight bends down to Realp. From there six kilometers to Hospental.

Turn right at the roundabout onto Gotthardstrasse. Much traffic. After 5.8 kilometers, turn off to the old Gotthardstrasse. Cobblestone route. Numerous hairpin bends on the Tremola down to Airolo. Detour to Airolo to refuel. Rest option.

Back to the junction towards Nufenen. Now always parallel to the Ticino River. Partly bumpy route. After 22 kilometers the Nufenen pass is reached. Rest option. The inn is only conditionally recommended.

Well developed descent to Ulrichen. In Ulrichen catering and accommodation. There again towards Furka. The valley becomes narrower, before Gletsch serpentines. In Gletsch to the left up the Grimsel. Shortly after the top of the pass, turn off to the Oberaar panorama road. Temporary one-way street regulation. Phenomenal prospects. Guest house at the end of the street with overnight accommodation.
