  • gentle load changes at the apex of the hairpin bends
  • strong draft at the exit of the curve
  • agile handiness in alternating curves
  • Distinct steering precision or finely adjustable brakes before tight downhill ramps

These are the arguments with which a motorcycle is convincing in the Alps. For this reason, MOTORRAD reduced the 1000 point rating at the Alpine Masters to the criteria that are important in terms of driving dynamics, weighted relevant aspects more heavily and ignored less crucial elements in this regard.

Choice of motorcycles

Only motorcycles that are new for the current season or have at least been revised are allowed to compete in the Alpine Masters. The path to the goal is rocky and extremely selective. From the five groups – determined according to the conceptual alignment of the machines – only the respective winner qualifies for the final. After the preliminary rounds, the winning quintet will compete in the final on a lap of more than 300 kilometers against the defending champion from the previous year, in this case the BMW R 1200 GS Rally.

Noise measurement and service issues

In the quiet mountain world, the traffic noise is even more intrusive than in the plains. For this reason, MOTORRAD determined the volume of the test machines for the first time as part of an Alpine Masters.

In addition, topics related to travel preparations for the Alps, such as planning and navigation, textile suits were tested and detailed tips on driving technique in the Alps and on loading and driving with luggage were summarized.

So all in all a round thing, our MOTORRAD Alpen-Masters. In the magazine, the content was published in three parts in issues 15, 16 and 17. With this over 70-page PDF, you get the concentrated load and all the content that we created for the Alpen Masters this year in one go. Have fun with it!
