45,178 participants, 220 models, 10 categories – this is how the MOTORRAD readers’ choice 2020 can be summed up in numbers. You can read here which models won in the individual categories.

In the MOTORRAD Readers’ Choice you, our readers, become a critical and committed jury every year. You can choose your favorite bikes in ten categories. And we’re not just looking at it with curiosity, but the whole industry. You have chosen from a total of 220 models in the following categories: Tourers / Sports Tourers, Athletes, Enduros / Supermoto, Chopper / Cruiser, Naked Bikes, Crossover, Modern Classics, Beginners, 125cc and scooters. You can read in the next paragraphs which models are ahead in the respective category.

Tourer / sports tourer

The BMW R 1250 RS took 1st place in the Tourer / Sport Tourer category.

2. KTM 1290 Super Duke GT
3. Ducati SuperSport

Where the KTM 1290 Super Duke GT was still enthroned last year, the BMW R 1250 RS will be in 2020. This means that the KTM slips to second place. Third place this year does not go to the BMW R 1250 RT, but to the Ducati SuperSport.

The BMW S 1000 RR took 1st place in the athlete category.

3. Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade

Traditionally, the battle for the top between Bavaria and Bologna is fought here. Like last year, the BMW S 1000 RR wins in 2020 and the Ducati Panigale V4 R remains in 2nd place. But something has changed in 3rd place: The Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade takes bronze. The Ducati Panigale V4 S Corse succeeded in doing this in 2019.

Chopper / cruiser

The Triumph Rocket 3 took 1st place in the Chopper / Cruiser category.

Anyone who thinks Harley leads the cruiser category is wrong. Last year the Bonneville Bobber from Triumph was in first place, this year it will be replaced by another Triumph, namely the Rocket 3. After all, so that the Triumphs don’t get bored with each other, the Ducati Diavel 1260 still rolls in third place, with it is just 0.1 percentage points behind the second-placed Bobber.

Enduros / supermotos

The BMW R 1250 GS took 1st place in the enduro / supermoto category.

2. Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin
3. Yamaha Tenere 700

No surprise in first place in this category with the BMW R 1250 GS, but a nice variety of brands. The new Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin seamlessly replaces its predecessor, which also took second place in 2019. In third place we welcome a new entry in the readers’ poll – the Yamaha Tenere 700. In 2019, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT was there.

Crossover

BMW motorcycle.

The BMW S 1000 XR took 1st place in the crossover category.

1. BMW S 1000 XR
2. Ducati Hypermotard 950
3. BMW F 900 XR

A BMW also holds first place in this category – the S 1000 XR. The Hypermotard 950, which was ranked 3rd last year, has improved to 2nd place, while the new F 900 XR is another BMW rounding off the top 3.

Naked bikes

Ducati

The Ducati Streetfighter V4 took 1st place in the Naked Bikes category.

1. Ducati Streetfighter V4
2. KTM 1290 Super Duke R.
3. BMW R 1250 R.

The new Ducati Streetfighter V4 rolls around the corner and relegates the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, spoiled by victory, to 2nd place. In third place is the BMW R 1250 R. The two newcomers from Ducati and BMW in the top 3 have to give way to Indian FTR 1200 and Aprilia Tuono, who were still in positions 2 and 3 in 2019.

Modern classics

Kawasaki.

The Kawasaki Z 900 RS took 1st place in the Modern Classics category.

2. BMW R nineT / R
3. BMW R nineT Scrambler

The Kawasaki Z 900 RS holds its position here, followed by the BMW R nineT in second place, which also knows its place from last year. The BMW R nineT Scrambler, on the other hand, is new in 3rd place, the last one being occupied by the Triumph Thruxton 1200.

Beginners

The KTM 390 Duke took 1st place in the entry-level category.

2. Honda CB 500 F / CBR 500 R
3. Ducati Scrambler Sixty2

The KTM 390 Duke already took 1st place in this category from last year. There are changes, however: where the 500cc Honda had to share one place with the BMW G 310 R in 2019, it is now proudly alone. And third place goes to the smallest of the Ducati Scrambler family.

125cc

The KTM 125 Duke took 1st place in the 125cc category.

2. Honda Monkey 125
3. Aprilia RS 125

There will be no big surprises with the 2020 light motorcycles. The KTM 125 Duke is stable in 1st place, followed by the Honda Monkey 125 and Aprilia RS 125 / Replica swapping places. In 2019, the Aprilia made it ahead of the Honda.

Scooter

Piaggio

The Vespa GTS Super 300 took 1st place in the scooter category.

1. Vespa GTS Super 300
2. Yamaha TMAX Tech MAX
3. BMW C 650

At this point we could almost call the Vespa a GS among the scooters, because it sticks in first place, as does the R 1250 GS in the Enduro category. The Yamaha TMAX, which is very popular in Europe, shared third place with the BMW C 650 in the previous year. In 2020, the large Yamaha scooter will have 2nd place to itself, the BMW C 650 is 3rd and the electric scooter BMW C- Evolution, which was in 2nd place last year, leaves the top 3.
