The range of Aprilia 125cc sports motorcycles has been completely redesigned. At the RS 125 and the Tuono 125 has been meticulously worked to improve performance, features, safety, perceived quality, and standard equipment. And everything “Assembled in Italy”, Aprilia is proud of that.

New design

The front design of the Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 is from the new RS 660 and Tuono 660 inspired, from which, in addition to the shape of the plastic, they also adopt the LED lighting system and – a novelty in the 125cc – integrate the front indicators into the headlights. The half-link of the RS 125 is now mounted 18 mm higher, which benefits the driving comfort, but without affecting the familiar qualities in the most sporty driving situations. The painted aluminum frame of the two variants will remain part of the design in 2021: The RS in clearcoat, the Tuono gets black painted chassis parts.

New electronics

Both models have new, fully digital instrumentation with an extensive on-board computer and a wealth of information: fuel gauge, current and average consumption and remaining range. The instrument cluster is backlit in two colors and for the optional Aprilia MIA multimedia platform prepared. With this extra, the smartphone can be connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth and thus becomes a full entertainment hub for music, telephony and message alarms via the Bluetooth system in the helmet.

New motor

A liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with four-valve control is used in both models. Housing and cylinder are the same as the Euro 4 engine. The cylinder head has been redesigned for the new Euro 5 standard. The cooling in particular has been revised. The combustion chamber has also been redesigned, as have the intake and exhaust ducts. The mixture is re-ignited with an iridium spark plug. Another new feature is Marelli injection in the MIUG4 ECU variant. It comes together with a new, higher-positioned throttle valve, which enables a steeper intake duct for better cylinder filling. The exhaust system has also been completely redesigned and cleans the exhaust gas with a new and larger catalytic converter system. According to Aprilia, these measures, in addition to the Euro 5 homologation achieved, should strengthen the torque curve and provide maximum power at lower speeds, which among other things enables lower fuel consumption. In numbers: an unchanged 15 hp are available at 10,000 tours, 500 revs earlier. The torque increases by 0.3 Nm to 11.2 Nm at 8,000 (min (minus 250 / min). An adapted final ratio with now 58 teeth on the sprocket is supposed to increase the pulling power and suitability for everyday use.

ABS, rollover protection and grip

In both models – Aprilia RS 125 and Tuono 125 – From 2021, an advanced two-channel ABS from Bosch will be used that has rollover protection (anti-stoppy function). The new Michelin Pilot Street should bring more stability and grip in the first tires. What is new is the wider dimension in 140 / 70-17 at the rear, while at the front it remains at size 100 / 80-17, both as diagonal tires.

Aprilia RS 125 GP Replica

Once again Aprilia is providing the RS with the limited version GP Replica. Their graphics are very similar to those of the Aprilia RS-GP MotoGP bikes. It is also equipped with a quickshifter and a bench cover as standard. The Quickshifter can be retrofitted to the Tuono 125 and the RS.

Color palette and prices

The Aprilia RS 125 is available in two color variants: Aprilia Black – a combination of black and red – and Sintesi Blue, with large parts of blue and silver. the Aprilia Tuono 125 is available in three finishes: Aprilia Black – a combination of red and block, Lightning White with matt white and gray tones, and the darker Arrow Gray, with glossy gray and black tones. The prices for the RS 125 are 5,090 euros, the GP replica is available for 5,240 euros and the Tuono 125 is expected to cost 4,990 euros. The three 125s should be available from June 2021.
