Werner – the race 2019
This time without “Revangsche”

“Werner – the race 2019” takes place from 29.8. until 1.9. at the Hartenholm airfield. The new edition of the legendary race started in 2018 and the Horex won the 201.17-meter course.

The legendary Werner race of 1988 saw 200,000 visitors. The new edition started 30 years later as part of a festival in the same venue as before and attracted around 50,000 fans. And in 2019 the Hartenholm airfield will again be transformed into a colorful festival area, if from August 29th to September 1st “Werner – the race 2019” takes place. This time without it “Revangsche”, instead, Brosel, Andi and Holgi will be on site in new roles.

The stage will be: Bohse Onkelz, In Extremo, Eisbrecher, Kim Wilde, Thundermother, Blaas Of Glory, Crossplane, Karholz, Motorjesus, Nitrogods, Skyline, The Coast Guards, The Klempins, The OReilleys And The Paddyhats, The Waltons and many others more.

Tickets are available from 59 euros – “Camping on the large campsite for everyone is included in the ticket, as is access to the grandstands and the paddock. Bringing trailers and caravans with you does not cost anything extra in 2019”, so the organizer. Children up to 12 years do not pay anything.

In addition, parcels with electricity connections in two different sizes can be booked as an add-on. “Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over 7.5 tonnes require a parcel to be booked”, so the information of the organizers.

The new edition 2018

In 2018, the Wacken organizers provided 90 bands on four stages and races in eight classes, in which 3,000 drivers and mechanics took part. Comic artists provided the highlight on the eighth mile “Crumbs” (Rotger Feldmann, 68 years old) and innkeeper “Holgi” (Holger Henze, 74 years old). The latter competed with the Porsche 911, which won the sprint race in 1988: built in 1968, six cylinders, 2,341 cm³, estimated unprofessional 600 hp. Brosel rolled to the start on the “Red Porsche Killer” – equipped with four Horex engines of 550 cm³ each, which provide an estimated 160 hp. This time Brosel won, the spectacle lasted a full ten seconds, three tenths later the 911 raced across the finish line.

“Everything is original? If the loser is to be treated like it used to be, then start collecting cat shit “, wrote MOTORRAD reporter Michael Schumann in the spring of 2018. And so it was, only that, out of solidarity with Holgi, Brosel climbed up the Schmahturm, where both of them had a shower of cat shit.

The revenge was of course not the only race this weekend: 250 selected starters competed against each other in ten classes on the eighth mile in the “Drag Race for Everyone”. Over 500 riders started in 17 different classes in Moto Cross. On the 1,500-meter-long route, points for the German championship were even up for grabs in the quad class.

Mopeds, lawn mowers, half motorcycles

In the “Unicycles” category, the participants started on motorized unicycles. The event page said: “You start from a standing start and drive a distance of 30.48 meters (100 feet). For a valid run, the driver, the energy source and the drive unit must be on the device at the start, during the journey and at the finish. Skids that are installed in front of the drive wheel must touch the ground at the start. After that, only one wheel is allowed to do it. ”Tractor pulling, moped cup, stock car, autocross and lawn tractor races also provided exciting entertainment on the site that was well worth seeing.

Speaking of entertainment – it was the finest: Niedeckens BAP, Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Otto and the Friesenjungs, Torfrock as well as the Hartenholm fire brigade music train and 85 other bands heated up the visitors.

200,000 visitors, tank trucks full of Flens Pils, sausage flashers and the loser was pelted with cat shit – in 1988 the Werner race in Hartenholm made history. That it was over after a few seconds and that Brosel alias Rotger Feldmann didn’t even get his “Red Porsche Killer” driven by four Horex engines up to speed because it switched itself off at the start. It was a great party – and Holgi in his red 911 “was doped.”
