Light off – spot on!

The auditorium is quiet, the lights go out, the gentle sway of the closed curtain gradually comes to a standstill. The 2007 motorcycle year is ready to go.

Ralf Schneider

Trends ?? they help to channel a flood of innovations that we present on the following pages. Therefore, the first thing to point out here is a strong trend that is giving wings to single-cylinder engines, which have long been neglected. Above all, BMW and KTM present modern singles full of carefree dynamics. Smaller Italian manufacturers such as Benelli and MV Agusta are not quite that far, but are working hard on the “monocylindro”.
In the case of super sporty motorcycles, the trend towards ever more sophisticated technology and equipment continues, with almost no differences between the 600 and 1000 superbikes. The anticipated thrust of electronic traction controls and other driving aids, however, has not yet set in, although the basis for it is being laid everywhere by engineers creating more and more interfaces for intervention. For example with the new Yamaha YZF-R1, whose engine characteristics can now also be influenced by variable intake manifold lengths. Fortunately, the spread of ABS is more than just a trend. Even with inexpensive motorcycles, it is gradually becoming a matter of course.

Aprilia 750

aprilia 750

90-degree V-two-cylinder: It is already clear that the engine of this brand new 750cc naked bike from Aprilia is not based on the 1000cc engines. Instead, Aprilia has developed a design that was previously shown at major motorcycle trade shows by Piaggio, ready for series production. This engine has a simpler design than the 1000 with one camshaft per cylinder, but Aprilia has the confidence to breathe around 100 hp into it. Mixture preparation is carried out by a modern injection system with electronically controlled throttle valves, similar to the Yamaha R6 and R1 or the BMW K 1200.
The frame construction follows the principle of the Enduro and Supermoto models RXV and SXV, cast aluminum parts are used in the area of the swing arm bearings, the front section is designed as a steel tubular frame. The swing arm is made entirely of aluminum. On the first and so far only photo
you can at least see that this frame contributes a lot to the impression of lightness and dynamism that the motorcycle exudes. Because the designer of the Benelli Leo 756 only recently switched from Aprilia to Benelli, at least similarities in the sharpness of the lines are to be expected.

Benelli Mono

benelli mono

Has Benelli bought the Vertemati brothers’ off-road know-how, or what other forms of cooperation exist between the two parties? This question arises when considering the new Benelli single-cylinder model
literally, because insiders recognize a typical Vertemati layout in its engine: low housing, towering double-cam cylinder head and cassette gear. This question will be clarified on the first day of sale of this issue,
However, it was not enough before the editorial deadline.
What is certain is that the engine will sit in a new type of frame made of welded cast aluminum and this combination will be the basis for supermoto and enduro racers
which will initially be used as factory machines and sold as production racers. After possible weaknesses of the concept have been remedied in sports,
one or the other model homologated for road traffic is planned as the next step.

Benelli leo 756

benelli leo 756

Reads like nonsense or a new kind of higher mathematics: 1131 minus 1 equals 754. If you remove a cylinder from the largest Benelli three-cylinder to date, a 754 remains-
Two-cylinder left. Why it is called 756, of course, remains a mystery. Anyway, such an engine, that
will produce between 70 and 80 hp and have a balancer shaft, Benelli is installing a new frame consisting of two cast aluminum halves that are glued and screwed together and turns it into a mid-range naked bike. An exclusive middle class, so to speak.
The sharp, angular styling is based on the design language of the large TnT 1130, and also takes over some individual parts from existing models ?? for example the headlight from the
Tornado ??, but does not copy any of them one-to-one. In this way, the developers can create an independent motorcycle and at the same time design components that are inexpensive to produce. If at all possible, the price should be below 7,000 euros.

BMW G series

MOTORRAD had announced the three new single-cylinder models from BMW at an early stage, but their final, standard version is still a big surprise in its lightness and freshness. Perhaps one or the other experienced motorcyclist will remember the Modulo design study from the 1980s. A game of ideas by the BMW developers with the aim of generating a wide range of models from a basic motorcycle with different attachments. From the enduro to the super sports car.
Exactly this idea, but also in the light version, is now going into series production with the three G 650 X models (X equals Cross). The Xchallenge appears as a classic enduro with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and long 270 millimeters of travel at the front and rear. A scrambler or, in contemporary terms, a kind of Yamaha Tricker with real pressure is called Xcountry; this variant is characterized by a very deep seat and a driver position that has been moved far forward. The sportiest model of the trio will be the Xmoto, which was clearly inspired by the KTM Duke. It has the widest tires (120/70 at the front, 160/60 at the rear) on 17-inch wheels and the largest brake disc (320 millimeters) in the front wheel. Otherwise, the technology is the same for all three. The engine known from the F 650 series, one of the most modern, albeit not lightest single-cylinder, got new housing covers, was slimmed down by two kilograms and increased by three to 53 hp. Obviously, it was not that easy to achieve the Euro 3 homologation, because the engine fell far short of the target of 60 hp. Since the weight savings announced by BMW board member Diess were already better, because the G 650 are specified from 156 to 160 kilograms, weighed with 90 percent of the tank filling. Given a tank volume of only 9.5 liters, the remaining ten percent mean an additional weight of not even one kilogram. Because the engine should be extremely economical, BMW promises a range of 250 kilometers despite the small tank. The frame that consists of one is of central importance when it comes to weight savings
consists of a diverse mix of steel and aluminum parts that is precisely tailored to the use at the respective location. The area around the swing arm mount is cast from aluminum and also anodized. All three G 650 will be ?? Of course ?? Delivered with ABS on request and will be available from dealers from spring 2007.

BMW K 1200 R Sport

bmw K 1200 R Sport

BMW will give us the edge. This is how we had thought in view of the bare K 1200 R when we received the message from a customer advertised ahead of time that the Bavarians were bringing a K 1200 with half-shell cladding. Instead, it is scarce
Shell has become a round thing. With organic transitions to the tank cover and the frame profiles, which on the model have a metallic blue paint in aluminum-silver. BMW promises significantly better touring characteristics than the K 1200 R with the same seating position,
But the R Sport definitely sees it in the right territory even on occasional excursions on the racetrack. It almost sounds as if this K variant is the optimal synthesis of the two previously offered.
The technology is the same as that of the R, so the engine comes in a 163 hp version and pushes 127 Nm of torque. With the tank almost full, the R Sport should weigh 241 kilograms. Typical for the K 1200 R Sport is a BMW
wide range of accessories on offer.

Ducati Sport 1000 S.

ducati Sport 1000 S.

A brief description of the Sport 1000 S could look like a Paul Smart replica, only without Ohlins suspension elements and in an unlimited edition. For all non-Ducati specialists, a little more information about what a Paul Smart replica is: a throwback to the machine with which Paul Smart won the Imola 200 miles for Ducati in 1972. Was that a vertical shaft 750 at that time? with fairing, spoked wheels and matt black exhaust system. These three style elements can be found on the replica. To distinguish it from the green-silver limited edition, the normal version is simply and beautifully painted in red. Driving requires a certain ability to suffer, because the long tank in combination with the low handlebar stubs creates a sitting position that is not very comfortable.

Ducati Monster S4R

ducati Monster S4R

The current Testastretta four-valve engine finds its way into the Monster series, and after the extremely expensive S4Rs, it now also powers the S4R, which is somewhat more moderately priced. Potential buyers must be careful so that there is no confusion with the older model of the same name, which still carried the Desmoquattro engine. The S4R is a whopping 2750 euros cheaper than
the reverse. She has to do without the noble Ohlins spring mechanism and some carbon parts. But the Showa fork and the Sachs shock absorber are fully adjustable. Ducati makes no difference when it comes to the brakes; the S4R also has “prestigious” (Ducati quote) radially bolted Brembo four-piston calipers.

Ducati Multistrada 1100 / S

ducati Multistrada 1100 / S

In 2003 Ducati presented the Multistrada 1000. A sporty machine that bridges the gap between enduro, speedster and tourer. Unusually, the upper part of the fairing and the instruments swivel with the wide handlebar. Nothing changes in this concept or the design in 2007, but four millimeters more bore pumps the air-cooled V2 with double ignition to 1078 cm3 displacement. I like the 1100 engine
first attempt at driving with even more torque at medium speeds. The clutch now runs quietly in the oil bath, the handlebar, which is now rubber-mounted, is supposed to dampen vibrations. And the best for last: the prices for both versions ?? the »S« attracts with Ohlins spring elements, carbon parts and aluminum handlebars ?? were not increased compared to the 1000s. In contrast to the Multistrada, the Hypermotard (small photo) is unambiguous, it comes in 2007 as a crystal clear Supermoto racer and is powered by the same, air-cooled 1100 two-valve engine. The one or the other horsepower should increase at the top in order to be able to stand up to the only opponent, the 950 KTM Supermoto. Visually, the slim, tidy Duc is definitely ahead of the pack.

Harley models with Twin Cam 96 engines

Harley models with Twin Cam 96 engines

More displacement, pressure and sound: Heavily revised, the big one fires
V2 engine from Harley-Davidson, the Twin Cam 96, all Dynas, Softails and Touring models. Its name is based on the two camshafts below, 96 indicates the displacement in cubic inches and corresponds to 1584 cm3. The V2 bumper looks as good as ever, with its purely air-cooled cylinders spread 45 degrees.
A cursory glance also eludes the six-speed gearbox, narrower timing belts, two lambda sensors in the manifolds and less service effort. In addition, the significantly reduced mechanical running noise in the engine left more scope for sound engineering. One of the two mufflers is less damping. A flap keeps this almost closed in city traffic. As the speed increases, the on-board computer gradually opens the flap, which makes for an audibly better sound than the old V-Zwo. This also benefits the
Softail Custom (FXSTC, photo far left), the only real new model in the Big Twins. Like all Softails, it carries the 71 hp engine in the “B” version: the rigidly bolted V2 has balancer shafts. The name Softail indicates that the rear (tail) is sprung, i.e. kept soft, despite the rigid frame optics. The unique selling points of the Softail Custom, which cost more than 18,000 euros, are its long fork, narrow front tire and heavily stepped seat. The Fat Boy (FLSTF, middle photo), which weighs 330 kilograms and costs 20,345 euros, looks more martial. Their massive mudguards rightly bear the name. In the 2007 model, the front tire grew to a stately 140 mm width. Much fatter: the 200 mm rear roller on the six inch wide aluminum disc wheel. The tubular handlebar grew to a diameter of 1.25 inches and the output increased to 73 instead of 64 hp. The only thing that has decreased is the manual force required for the cable clutch.
The Spartan Dyna Street Bob (FXDB, photo on the right) carries the Twin Cam 96 black powder-coated and, like all Dynas and Tourers, mounted in rubber elements. With a single seat and ape hanger, it happily pays homage to individualism and is at the same time the cheapest of all Big Twins.

Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special VRSCDX

Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special VRSCDX

The Night Rod Special is evil and damn black. On this archetypal muscle bike, the frame, dip tubes and bridges of the extremely flat fork are also dipped in black, as are the swing arm, disc wheels and painted parts. The same applies to the 121 hp, water-cooled “Revolution” V2 engine. As has all siblings in the V-Rod family
he 60 degree cylinder angle and 1131 cm3 displacement. The beefy appearance of the VRSCDX is underlined by the cockpit fairing and the brushed »Straight Shot Dual« exhaust system with ?? logical ?? black end caps. The 240 rear roller ensures a strong finish. Shorter (black!) Struts and a new one
Contoured seat cushions lower the seat height of the Special from 660 to 640 millimeters. Under

The number one motorcycle to promote young talent presents itself in Germany thanks to the redesigned fairing and new double headlights in
a look that emphasizes the similarity to the CBR 600 RR and the Fireblade. The single-cylinder engine with two valves received an injection, in
Exhaust is now a regulated catalytic converter that controls the pollutant emissions
far below the Euro 3 limit values. This does not affect the performance, the torque has even increased a little. Honda has not yet revealed whether and how the more elaborate technology affects the price.

Honda Hornet 600

Honda Hornet 600

Has it really been eight years? In fact, the Hornet 600 made its debut in the 1998 season, and with little facelift it has managed to remain the freshest of the long-running hits. After such a long time, however, a modernization is worthwhile, and that’s why the 2007 Hornet comes with a new engine and new chassis. Your 599 four-cylinder comes from the engine of the CBR 600 RR, although the frame remains
True to the previous construction principle, it is made up of three cast aluminum parts instead of steel profiles.
Honda has put much more effort into the optical connection of these two main assemblies than with its predecessor. Although shirt-sleeved sheet metal angles are still used for the connection between the cylinder base and the frame, the engine section is now effective
as tidy as it should be for an undisguised motorcycle. Thanks to the RR engine, the Hornet gained five horsepower and lost five kilograms; with a full 19 liter tank, it now weighs 198 kilograms. The torque of the shorter-stroke new four-cylinder remains at 65 Nm.
The front section has the strongest effect with a triangular headlamp which is pointed towards the front and which is framed by small side wings
is crowned by a triangular instrument panel. A huge step forward compared to the old round headlights. It may
to be seen as a concession to the Hornet fans in Germany that the new ones can be optionally equipped with a CBS / ABS
can. It is the tried and tested braking system that is already used on the Deauville and CBF 1000. Still an unusual choice in such a sweeper.

Honda Varadero 1000

Honda Varadero 1000

Honda has mainly done optical retouching on the Varadero 1000, so the question arises why the weight information is missing in the technical data.
The new one will hardly weigh less than the previous 283 kilos. The side panels, the aluminum underrun protection and the rear have been changed slightly, as has the shape of the seat. In the cockpit, a new instrument panel with a display of the remaining range provides information; there is space for smaller items on the left and right underneath.
The only technical change concerns the exhaust. The predecessor already had a regulated catalytic converter plus secondary air system, which required the Euro 3 standard
this configuration will become more powerful. Which the power of the V2 does not impress.

Honda Varadero 125

Honda Varadero 125

In the 125cc class, Honda really lets it rip. In addition to the future even smarter CBR, a sports enduro, a cruiser and, last but not least, the travel enduro Varadero 125 round off the program. The last two models mentioned even have a V2 engine, which fully utilizes the permitted 15 hp, but weighs more than the single. For 2007 the
Varadero engine has an injection and a regulated catalytic converter, and as with the CBR, performance remained the same despite these interventions. The price, already at 4540 euros, should increase slightly. Since the little Varadero is mostly chosen by “high-income” (Honda quote) holders of the old class 3 driver’s license
this subject is not so sensitive here.

Honda CBR 600 RR

Honda CBR 600 RR

The CBR 600 RR enters the new season with airy clothes. Apparently, the Honda engineers have decided to direct air flows with air currents rather than with closed plastic bowls. The side panel of the super athlete therefore has more cutouts than air deflectors. But the CBR 600 RR is not only visually easier, it has actually lost ten kilograms, most of which was saved on the frame and the exhaust system. There wasn’t much more to polish on the engine, the only way to save a few grams was to use a lighter alternator and a magnesium valve cover.
In return, the four-cylinder has improved in other respects. It should deliver three more horsepower, and inside work numerous modified parts from the pistons to the clutch. By means of a central hood, which is continued through the steering head section, the engine always breathes cool intake air, at higher speeds even with a slight, performance-enhancing overpressure.
After the Fireblade, Honda has now also given the CBR 600 RR an electronically controlled steering damper. He hides discreetly under the tank cover with her.

Honda VT 750 Shadow Spirit

Honda VT 750 Shadow Spirit

Stylistic knowledge of choppers and cruisers is a diverse and sensitive topic that unfortunately is not taught at any university. And apparently the fans of one or the other style are not ready to concessions, otherwise Honda would hardly have launched this variant of the 750 VT. Unlike the wide-tyred Shadow-and-nothing else, which has been available since 2004, the Shadow Spirit has a 21-inch front wheel with narrow tires. It looks slim and puristic, and with its Gunfighter bench it offers the opposite pole to the lush cushions of the Shadow. As the so-called staggered shorty dual sidepipes show, she seeks proximity to the Harley-Davidson Low Rider. Optically. Because with the 42 hp at 59 Nm torque, it lacks a lot for the real Harley punch.

Kawasaki 1400 GTR

Kawasaki 1400 GTR

“Wow, they should bring them as a naked bike,” the nice colleague exclaimed from the graphics when the image file with the stripped front view of the 1400 GTR opened. Unfortunately, the imposing sight would totally run counter to the actual goals of this motorcycle. Because the GTR wants to be the strongest, sportiest and most comfortable of all touring bikes, and that is not possible without full fairing. Monocoque frames, giant coolers and big blocks have to go under the plastic. You also have to learn that the engine comes up with variable valve timing in order to show off tremendously at both low and high speeds, because you cannot see it. After all, there is still a clear view of the striking two-armed swing arm with cardan shaft and torque support on both sides.
More precise information on performance and weight is currently not available; The only thing that is certain is that the GTR will only come onto the market in the second half of 2007. Rumor has it she’ll tear her rear tires to shreds at top speed. Hence the delay.

Kawasaki Z 1000

The primacy of styling applies to this motorcycle. Up to the footrest brackets, everything except the wheels and tires has been styled to be sharp and angular in accordance with the motto.
This is precisely why we have gone into more detail here about what you cannot see, but which a committed driver must know. For example on the steel-
frame that can hardly be recognized as such behind a lot of design elements. He has two sides
Get struts that make the chassis stiffer and dampen the vibrations of the engine. Thanks to the modified tuning of the spring elements, the new Z 1000 drives much sportier and tighter, and the feedback from the front wheel is better. At the rear, the new VN 900 Custom even has a 15-inch disc wheel. These are of course the only significant differences to the VN 900 Classic, which debuted last year. So Kawasaki does not separate the two variants as consistently and stylishly from each other as Honda does with the VT 750. On the other hand, the Kawas engines have a lot more lard than it should be

Kawasaki ZX-6R

Kawasaki ZX-6R

It’s strange: everyone is watching the 1000 superbikes, while the 600 with around 200 hp still offer the highest liter output and the greatest power density of all classes. With the 636s, Kawasaki had temporarily withdrawn from tough wrestling, but now the Greens are back with a new design.
Because the basic features of the engine of the previous ZX-6R still went back to the year 1999, the Kawasaki engineers took all experience with the extremely light and compact 1000 cc engine
together and translated them into the smaller cubic capacity. An enormous amount of effort is required, especially with the cylinder head, as in the case of the 1000 series, the intake ports are smoothed by hand. The new 599 not only pushes the most torque in the mid-range, it is confidently proclaimed, it also turns higher than any other.
If you look at the position of the motor in the frame, you will notice how closely it was built around the center of gravity in an effort to stay as close as possible to the perfect wheel load distribution in every driving condition. A design that has proven itself in the Honda CBR 600 RR and with the help of which Kawasaki wants to catch up with the known disadvantages of the earlier ZX-6R in terms of cornering speed.
This required a completely new frame, the shape of which, with the rear profiles bent downwards, is reminiscent of the chassis of the old ZXR 750. The swing arm also has nothing in common with the part that was used earlier. Unlike Honda, Kawasaki relies on close-fitting, as smooth as possible cladding surfaces for aerodynamics. Single-
Lich two side recesses direct the exhaust air from the cooler to the outside.

KTM 690 Supermoto

KTM 690 Supermoto

KTM in-house designer Gerald Kiska takes the edge to the extreme. Or the tip on the edge? In any case, he can claim that he not only initiated the trend towards sharp and sharply delineated forms in the design of motorcycles, but also pushed it as far as anyone else. In the new
690 Supermoto, in which the front fender, which grows directly out of the lamp mask, acts like a pedestrian skewer. Another part that nobody can look past and that provokes all sorts of reactions is the one-in-two exhaust system, which is guided in large arcs. Overall, a creation that will polarize as strongly as has been typical for KTM for several years.
The engine of the 690 SM, however, will prove to be able to win an unrestricted majority. With 64 hp in a street legal configuration, it beats every other series single, including the new BMW engine; In terms of weight and compact design, it is the reference in single-cylinder construction and shows what is really possible with this long-neglected construction principle. In addition, the engine is richly equipped with technical innovations from the injection to the balancer shaft to the APTC clutch, which works under load thanks to its servo effect
reduces hand strength and at the same time offers an anti-hopping effect.
The 64 hp meet a vehicle weight of just 163 kilograms ?? weighed with a full tank? as well as the finest components: adjustable upside-down fork, radial mon-
caliper and a sturdy tubular space frame with aluminum swing arm. Wire spoke wheels with wide rims and grippy tires make the lighter perfect.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Wherever the GSX-R 1000 is, it always seems to be moving forward. Despite all restrictions. So the performance of the 2007 model climbs regardless of the clean euro-
3 homologation on 186 hp. Because of the necessary,
voluminous exhaust system, however, the new one carries a few pounds more on the ribs than the old GSX-R.
But what does old mean? You can tell what an extraordinary motorcycle Suzuki of the 2005/2006 years has succeeded in the fact that the successor only develops from this model in meticulous detail work. This applies to the engine and the outfit, which only shows differences in the upper part of the fairing. On the other hand, some major changes, for example in the frame, are hardly noticeable. In the style of the times, electronics are playing an increasingly important role; In addition to an electronically controlled steering damper, the 1000 series offers three performance curves that can be selected at the push of a button.

Sometimes you can’t do without classics, in this case a modified Schiller quote: It comes late, but it comes. This applies to the Suzuki B-King in two ways. First, it lasted five years
Long pending as to whether it will go into series production, and secondly, it will still be a good nine months from now on before the motorcycle will go on sale. But better a late B-King than none at all.
Apart from a few details, the series king adheres closely to the template of the design study, the technology has been slimmed down. The drive is the 1299 Hayabusa engine, which, unlike in the study, does not have a compressor and has to leave some horsepower at peak power, but the torque is increased. That fits a naked bike.

Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S

Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S

The ribs are gone. The fine cooling fins of the air / oil-cooled Bandit engine, an expression of classic motorcycle technology, are gone, and that is only the outer expression for the technical revolution that has taken place here. Because the big Bandit will be powered by a 1250 four-cylinder in the future-

was water-cooled, injection,
Owns G-Kat and balance shaft. Without being specific, its builders ascribe the 1250 a rich increase in torque compared to the 1200, which was achieved thanks to the modern cylinder head and the longer stroke. The performance remains the same.
Fortunately, Suzuki has dispensed with false ornamental cooling rib romanticism; the bandits have always been honest fellows. Nevertheless, there is no culture shock when looking at the new ones, which is due to the fact that the frame and the rest of the appearance have only been changed slightly.

Unlike the 1250, the new, water-cooled engine of the 650 bandit is designed for more top performance. Since the transition from 600 to 650 cm3, the air-cooled predecessor was no longer a child of sadness; therefore the performance curve changes
only slightly in the middle range of the new engine. Due to the smaller individual cubic capacities and the resulting lower vibrations, it does not need a balance shaft.
Like the 1250 and as before, Suzuki offers the small Bandit unclad and with a frame-fixed half-shell as an S version, the seat height can be adjusted in two stages. But you don’t have to, because the Fazer version of the FZ1 gets an ABS after a year on the market. So she’s in the story anyway, although
nothing changes in the rest of the technology. Why not on this occasion too
the uncovered FZ1 was equipped with an anti-lock device, except
probably nobody to the Yamaha product planners. The FZ6 is now also possible.
At least the FZ1 will be available in a tasty blue in the coming model year-
metallic paintwork with narrow red decorative stripes on the wheels. But this time she had to give up her photo space to the Fazer.

Yamaha YZF-R1

Yamaha YZF-R1

Anyone who is interested in super athletes, even if only occasionally, will spontaneously recognize this motorcycle as the R1. Despite some further developments in detail, their relationship to the glorious ancestors remains unmistakable.
But the technology is completely new, downright revolutionary by Yamaha standards. For the first time since 1986, the brand’s sporty flagship has an engine
with four instead of five valves per cylinder, which are at a contemporary narrow angle of 24 degrees. Thanks long-
variable velocity stacks and the Yamaha-
The high-tech four-cylinder should equally overpower typical Exup flaps in the exhaust in the middle and at the top-
put on properly. As with the R6, the throttle valves are controlled by computer, the driver only sets the maximum opening angle on the throttle. A system that, if programmed accordingly, could serve as a traction control system. Despite the regulated catalytic converter, which has become indispensable for compliance with the Euro 3 standard, the new R1 increases nominally by five to 180 hp.
The chassis also offers a lot of new features; From the frame to the powerfully dimensioned swingarm, from the fork with aluminum damper parts to the shock absorber with the pressure level adjustable in high and low speed, no part remained the same. And for the brakes, Yamaha is back to six-piston calipers.

Yamaha XVS 1300 A Midnight Star

Yamaha XVS 1300 A Midnight Star

Since the displacement of large choppers and cruisers has been around the two-liter limit, a motorcycle like the 1300 Midnight Star should actually be counted in the middle class. But when it comes to performance and technical subtleties, it is at the forefront. Your short-stroke V2 with water cooling, four-valve technology and an overhead camshaft is very compact. With 73 hp he is
at the level of the new, large Harley twins. Two balance shafts minimize its vibrations,
and with all these characteristics taken together, it is actually overqualified for a cruiser engine. Which is why MOTORRAD assumes this engine is in
as a drive for the next few years
to meet more models again.
Incidentally, the appearance of the XVS 1300 corresponds more to the common image of a cruiser: long, low, with a lot of chrome on it
Lamps and lids as well as a lot of built-in permeability.

Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 / MT-01

Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 / MT-01

One of the most successful middle graders in Europe, the Yamaha FZ6 /
Fazer, will be modernized after two years. Apparently the fairing of the Fazer was too expansive for some, because the new model looks more crouched, the headlights are lower. Nevertheless, the windshield should have improved thanks to a modified windshield.
The engine of all models was made fit for the Euro 3 standard with a regulated catalytic converter, the chassis of the Fazer S2 received an exclusive new aluminum swing arm and anodized fork dip tubes, on which one-piece brake calipers are now located instead of the previous double-piston floating calipers. For the sake of greater comfort, the passenger footrests have been installed lower, and the seat is also new. A cockpit modeled on the FZ1 further enhances the equipment. While so far only the half-faired Fazer with ABS was available, in the 2007 model year
all FZ6 are equipped with such a system. Little is known about the new edition of the MT-01, the pirate photo opposite in low resolution shows the six-piston brake calipers of the new R1 also on the MT.

Harley-Davidson XR 1200

Harley-Davidson XR 1200

In the USA, Harley has been clearing everything on the dirt track since time immemorial. Why there have been only half-hearted attempts to capitalize on this glamorous image in the series remains a mystery. That could be different with the XR 1200, which was previously declared as a prototype. The optics are clearly based on the successful flat rate-
tracker XR 750, but with Showa upside-down fork, Nissin brake-
system and handy chassis with aluminum swing arm are more predestined for winding asphalt roads than dusty oval slopes. In order to meet the sporting demands, the Sportster bumper V2 received new cylinder heads with downdraft injection, which should help it to achieve a top performance of 85 to 90 hp. An electronically controlled flap in the intake system optimizes the torque curve. Harley makes it dependent on the audience response at the Intermot whether the XR 1200 goes into series production. MOTORRAD assumes why the XR is already listed here as a 2007 model.
