The R 1200 GS says goodbye to the BMW portfolio, but still secures the new registration throne for the 2018 motorcycle year – with a total of 7,304 new registrations. In terms of the number of models and the total number of units, BMW is number one in the top 20 ranking in 2018.

New registrations for private individuals

If we look at the new registrations for private individuals in isolation, the large GS comes to 5,273 units. The second-placed Yamaha MT-07 has 3,010 registrations for private individuals and 3,199 in total. Either way, the gap between the admission queen and the runner-up is huge, while the places behind them are much tighter:

There are only 108 units between the Yamaha MT-07 (P2) and Kawasaki Z 900 (P3), between the KTM 1290 Super Duke R (P9) and the Honda 500 Rebel (P10) there are just eight units, and between the BMW R 1200 R (P 17 ) and BMW S 1000 R (P18) there are only five models that make the difference.

Outlook for 2019

Since the KTM 790 Duke did not start on the market until April in 2018, we assume that it will climb one or two places in the motorcycle year 2019. At the very top – surprise! – the new BMW R 1250 GS are ready. After all, it kicked its predecessor, the R 1200 GS, off the podium of the monthly most popular bikes in November 2018.
