New registrations in Europe for motorcycles in 2020
Germany in Europe at the front, electric at the back

Despite Corona, new motorcycle registrations in Europe increased by almost four percent in 2020. As the strongest motorcycle market, Germany is at the forefront of Europe, and the topic of electronics is still orphaned in Europe.

Despite a difficult spring, there will be more two-wheelers in Europe in 2020 than in 2019. This is evident from the registration figures that the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) has now presented. In comparison, the market is growing a good four percent, with the lighthouses being the Netherlands with 30.3 percent and Germany with 27 percent growth form while Italy and Spain shrink by 5.3 and 8.8 percent. In total, 923,002 two-wheelers were newly registered in Europe in 2020.

Germany top motorcycles, electric flops

According to the figures, Germany is coming out of 2020 with a big chest: 27 percent up and with 220,304 newly registered motorcycles, it is the strongest market in Europe. Italy follows with 218.027 and France with 191,231 new registrations. Adding up to the new registrations of displacements up to 125 cubic meters, the tide turns in favor of France with 98,592 mopeds. With 35,010 small calibers, Germany is still one of the strongest markets, as far as the B196 driver’s license option should lie.

Acem

Europe, especially Germany, is a difficult place for everything that has to do with electronics. Just 2,602 electric motorcycles were newly registered with us in 2020, which corresponds to an increase of 153 percent compared to the previous year, but does not earn any fame. For comparison: Spain sells this number in two months, Italy and France deliver it over the summer months. Nevertheless: With a total of 18,620 electric motorcycles in Europe, the choice, availability and price must be increased significantly despite the recent good increase (+51.8%), otherwise the two-wheeler train Europe will continue to run on fossil fuels. In addition, the top 50 motorcycles in Germany in the picture gallery.

Electric only in small

They push much harder small electric motors the Europeans through the cities. In the registration figures for mopeds, the 58,569 e-bikes are a word and the increase of 12.5 percent compared to 2019 no longer shows a trend here, but a healthy, growing market. This is underlined by the total number of mopeds in 2020 with 279,841, to which the electric cars already contribute 20.92 percent. In the case of motorcycles, the share is currently two percent.

The European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) is based in Brussels and consists of representatives from 18 motorcycle manufacturers and 17 national industrial associations from 15 European countries. In total, the members represent a good 300,000 jobs in Europe. In this role, the ACEM also represents the interests of the members in the EU and also guards the approval figures.

How do you feel about the electric motorcycle??

Out of the question for me.

The future of the two-wheeler for urban traffic.

There is no getting around the electric motorcycle.

Conclusion

It is also evident in the overall figures: Europe is a people of motorcyclists who like to burn fossil fuels. The topic of e-mobility on two wheels is more for low-power and cities. But maybe also because there are hardly any really available electric motorcycles that actually offer added value. The topic of range is the smallest. High price and absurd weight weigh more heavily.
