In Italy, 231,937 two-wheelers with a displacement of more than 50 cubic centimeters were newly registered in 2019. Well more than half of this is accounted for by scooters, which also dominate the top 20 new registrations.

In Bella Italia you ride a scooter – it feels like always and everywhere. But the feeling can also be substantiated with numbers. In 2019, a total of 133,054 scooters with more than 50 cubic meters were newly registered in Italy. This corresponds to an increase of 5.2 percent compared to 2018. New registrations of motorcycles increased by almost 6.3 percent, but only totaled 98,883 units in 2019.

Honda beats Piaggio

The top 20 Italian new registrations are also shaped by the strength of the scooters. There are only scooters on the podium – no, no Vespas, only Honda SH models, which are also made in Italy. The undisputed first place is the SH 125, followed by its big brother SH 150 and the very big brother SH 300. Further scooters from Piaggio, Kymco and Yamaha follow in fourth to seventh place. Only in eighth place is the hybrid Honda X-ADV almost something like a motorcycle.

If motorcycle, then enduro

Benelli

The first model that can undoubtedly be considered a motorcycle is the BMW R 1250 GS in tenth place – obviously the boxer is also a force south of the Alps. Two places behind is another large enduro with the Honda Africa Twin. The Benelli TRK 502 follows in 15th place – another Enduro, only this time from the mid-range segment. The top 20 Italian new registrations in 2019 will be decided by the Yamaha Tracer 900. In the gaps in between, which are not discussed here, there are of course a lot of scooters. By the way: The first Vespa in the ranking is only 13th on the list with the GTS 300.
