Shortly after take-off, the gigantic bunch dissolves, which is also due to the different interpretations of speed. While some go for a walk with their moped, others unpack the concentrated moped power. There’s enough Alpine panorama for everyone.

The kilometer-long downhill runs are not to be underestimated, especially not for the two-stroke engines. Some drive with the engine switched off – and say a prayer to the god of the drum brake beforehand.

Beware, contagious!
In the Otztal Moped Marathon, the drivers who come closest to the average time win. The video shows the normal moped madness.

Whoever comes closest to the average time has won. And the average time of the fifth Otztal Moped Marathon this year was 11 hours and 19 minutes. 5,500 meters of altitude, 239 alpine kilometers through Austria and four passes including the Timmelsjoch at 2,500 meters had to be mastered. All of this on 50 cubic mopeds.
1,513 starters took part in the 2017 edition of this somewhat different Alpine Challenge, with around 130 helpers from the organizers. The video shows the normal moped madness. But be careful when clicking: so much fun can be contagious!
