Three wheels, one cylinder, 37 hp

The Peugeot Metropolis 400i is the third in the group after the two Italian three-wheelers, the popular Piaggio MP3 and the rather rare Quadro 350D. MOTORRAD has already ridden it.

Like the first two, the Peugeot Metropolis 400i can be driven with a car driver’s license, which greatly increases the number of potential customers. According to Peugeot, 28,000 of these three-wheelers were sold across Europe in 2012, two thirds of them in France. Reason enough for the French to bring their own vehicle onto the market, including the drive and front wheel construction, which they developed themselves and assembled with components exclusively produced in France.

Three wheels, one cylinder, 37 hp

The workmanship and appearance of the material look high quality

MOTORRAD has already ridden a few kilometers with the Peugeot Metropolis 400i. The first impression is a good one: the workmanship and the appearance of the material look high-quality, the design is independent. In contrast to the MP3, the front wheels of which are guided by single-sided swing arms, the Metropolis is based on a parallelogram construction with triangular links, which should allow an incline of 40 degrees.

The driver takes a seat behind a high, manually adjustable window, the foot space is limited due to the concept, but there is a free passage. And instead of an ignition key, a transponder activates the ignition. The 37 hp single runs smoothly and confidently pushes the 260 kilogram scooter forward.

Peugeot Metropolis 400i from 8,399 euros

You quickly get used to the sluggishness typical of a tricycle when turning in, which requires considerable pull on the handlebars. On level ground you feel like the proverbial god in France, on the other hand, undulating terrain causes a slight unrest in the chassis of the Peugeot Metropolis 400i.

After all, it has the influence of three traces to digest and is also quite tightly tuned. The composite brake is decelerated powerfully, but strangely enough there is no ABS.

A box under and behind the bench as well as various compartments in the leg shield take care of the luggage storage. The front wheels can be locked to ensure a safe stance when stopping at the traffic lights, while a parking brake ensures a safe stop. The Peugeot Metropolis 400i costs 8,399 euros.
