The Ape cargo tricycle is not only cult in Italy. For the Indian market, Piaggio presented an electric version at the end of 2019. Now there is more detailed information.

D.he Italian Piaggio Group enters the electric vehicle market in India. For this purpose, the Ape E-City was presented in New Delhi. Outwardly, the Ape E-City resembles its combustion brothers. In terms of price, the electrified Ape in India is said to be on par with its combustion brothers.

45 km / h fast, up to 68 km far

The electric motor on the rear axle in the Ape E-City has an output of 5.4 kW and 29 Nm of torque. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 4.5 kWh. There is no switchable gearbox. The maximum speed is given as 45 km / h. There is a boost mode for inclines. If you squeeze out the batteries, you should have a range of up to 68 kilometers. The electric Ape with batteries weighs in at 389 kilograms. As a payload, you are allowed 300 kilograms. In addition to the driver, up to three passengers can travel on the bench in the rear under the soft top.

Piaggio relies on battery replacement

The Italians use a battery exchange system for the batteries. If the battery is empty, you can remove it and replace it with a fully charged one at a service station in a few minutes. The Ape can be equipped with up to three battery modules. The cockpit display is fully digital designed to match the electric drive. The most important vehicle functions and data can also be monitored via the app.


Piaggio

The Ape E-City is produced in the Piaggio factory in Baramati (India). It is not yet known whether the electrified Ape will also come to Europe.

India recently launched a program aimed at bringing as many electric vehicles as possible onto the Indian roads as quickly as possible. A very special focus is on the popular scooters and tricycles.
