City hopper

125 scooters are the ideal city vehicles: They are fast, agile and have plenty of storage space.

W.hen they have long been a familiar sight in some countries, the recognition that scooters are the ideal means of local transport is only gradually gaining ground in Germany. No worries about parking, no dependence on public transport timetables. And with a 125 cc, you can easily cover longer distances. In addition to their maneuverability, scooters have other advantages over other two-wheelers: the shopping bags disappear in the helmet compartment, and when it rains, the driver is relatively well protected thanks to the wide leg shield. The eight-liter speedsters are becoming more and more popular, especially with car drivers. Because if you got your class 2, 3 or 4 driving license before April 1, 1980, you can drive 125cc scooters up to 15 HP without any further test. But they are also an interesting second vehicle for motorcyclists.

Italjet Formula 125

With the Italjet Formula 125, sportiness is not only promised by the racing-style outfit, but also by the sophisticated technology. The Formula 125 is the first modern scooter to get its power from two cylinders. Only 13 HP pulls on the Kevlar V-belt, which transfers the power from 114 cm³ displacement to the rear wheel. But they are enough to sprint powerfully. Thanks to the stub axle steering and the infinitely adjustable spring base at the rear, the chassis also deserves praise. The Italjet turns corners with extreme precision. And with a disc brake at the front and rear, the sporty two-stroke can be safely decelerated at any time, whereby the extravagant front wheel guidance prevents the usual dip when braking with telescopic forks.

Suzuki An 125

Large motorcycle manufacturers are also successful in the scooter market. The AN 125 from Suzuki has cut a fine figure among four-stroke scooters for years. It is an ideal speedster for the city. Despite the ten-inch tires, it hardly tumbles and stays true to its course even with ruts and minor bumps. The Japanese doesn’t just offer enough space for the driver and pillion. In the helmet and glove compartment and on the standard luggage rack there is also enough space for shopping for the weekend feast. The contractor saves money at the pump. It only consumes 3.5 liters of normal per 100 kilometers. And if a driver suddenly shoots sideways in city traffic, his brakes ensure a quick and safe stop.

Piaggio Hexagon 125

If you want to travel comfortably through the city and across the country, the Hexagon 125 sofa roller is a good choice. Both driver and front passenger will find enough space on the wide bench, and the illuminated trunk easily swallows a bulk purchase. The water-cooled two-stroke engine of the Italian, on the other hand, is by no means easy. It ensures the right amount of liveliness. The front disc and the rear drum decelerate perfectly. The chassis relies on conservative elements: a drawn single-sided swing arm springs at the front, while a drive unit swing arm with strut provides comfort at the rear. The suspension elements are slightly dampened for the powerful engine, and the handling with the ten-inch tires is quite wobbly.

Vespa ET 4

The Vespa from Piaggio is one of the classics among scooters. Half a century ago the first wasps rolled over the asphalt, for its 50th birthday the Italian manufacturer served the Vespa ET 4, which combines the classic with the modern. It has the typical Vespa body made of pressed steel, only the inner lining of the leg shield, front wheel fenders and running board are made of plastic. On the other hand, the new one dispenses with the classic twist grip shift in favor of a stepless automatic belt mechanism. Due to the ten inch small wheels, the ET 4 is a bit wobbly, but extremely handy. The comfortably tuned chassis harmonizes perfectly with the good performance of the four-stroke engine. And despite the graceful appearance, the wide bench and long running board offer enough space.

Aprilia Leonardo 125

It looks elegant, the Leonardo 125. Even the banker with a suit and tie can easily be seen on it. Its briefcase can be placed under the bench or on the step. But the Leonardo can also inspire technology fans. The water-cooled engine with four valves for gas exchange is hidden under the plastic cover. Although it is a bit long translated, the Aprilia easily reaches 103 km / h. A disc brake at the front and rear ensures effective deceleration. Thanks to the twelve-inch wheels, the Aprilia tracks its course precisely and precisely. The telescopic fork irons away minor bumps, the rear suspension struts can be pretensioned depending on the load.
