The AMG chopper from OCC

The story sounds crazy. To make itself better known in the USA, the Swabian vehicle manufacturer AMG had a chopper built by OCC in Newburgh (New York) and trundled through America with it. Now the nameless bike is back home.

The number has nothing at all of the glamor with which the manufacturers usually court public attention. On the contrary: The first appearance in the Swabian homeland after almost two years of touring through US-American themed channels and countless automobile exhibitions is emphatically sober: A huge gray room, in the background the undisputed star in the AMG range, the new SLS super sports car, in front Motorcycle. It almost looks like a foreign body.

And it has no name. At least not a real one. No combination of letters, no two-digit combination of numbers, as is common in Affalterbach, where AMG resides. No pedigree, no papers, yes, not even specific specifications. AMG-OCC-Chopper, this picture of a bike goes under such a bumpy jumble of letters. The Swabian province has no name left. There are just two wheels too few.

Anyway. The Teutuls did a hell of a job. With its clear, reduced lines, a purist aesthetic and a lot of manual skill, the bike without a name is in no way inferior to the much-acclaimed latest masterpiece of the AMG designers, the SLS, which was completely developed in Affalterbach.

On the contrary: where OCC took the desired borrowings from AMG design, the Americans showed a lucky hand. Regardless of whether it is the tank surface in the hood design or the three-part five-spoke chrome wheels in AMG design connected with 60 screws – they look just as natural on this motorcycle as the huge 24-inch front wheel or the mighty 260 mm slipper on 21-inch Rear rim.

It is even better that the tattooed beards from the state of New York are not inferior to the Swabian tie-wearers in terms of their craftsmanship. Regardless of whether the welds on the OCC rigid frame (in which a 1647 cubic centimeter S&S-Motor hangs) or the taillights: this AMG-OCC-Chopper, that much is certain, would also decorate the garage of some AMG enthusiasts.

The makers: Orange County Choppers from Newburgh, New York State.

Orange County Choppers: The motorcycle manufacturer in Newburgh, New York State was founded in 1999 by Paul Teutul Sr. and emerged from a steel company. Orange County Choppers (www.orangecountychoppers.com) became famous through the television series "American choppers", which ran very successfully on Discovery Channel (in Germany DMAX) from 2002 to 2010. In addition to building their themed bikes (mostly for advertising purposes), the Teutuls also produce custom bikes for the "normal customers". The topic of the programs was not only motorcycle construction, but also the tensions between senior and junior. Paul Teutul Jr. has since left the company.
