»Kawa say i ??

For all those who are not very familiar with southern German dialects: Such pithy calls express recognition for a mature performance. Not undeserved, as the first information about the new Kawa shows.

Kawasaki don’t want to be nice anymore. The athletes certainly not. They are fed up with praising good wind protection and other touring capabilities, but then not being bought in favor of the radical competition. What started this year with the ZX-6R and RR models will increase for the coming season
to the extreme: sporty Kawa from 2004 are strong, fast, compact, light, uncompromising and at their best
Sense evil.
Ninja ZX-10R is the name of the outstanding representative of this challenge to the others. So that she does not only take the top position in her own family, she uses the superlative in a particularly effective advertising area. It should have the best power to weight ratio of all known super athletes. How much power and how much weight this is made up of, Kawasaki does not want to reveal yet? probably to be able to react in case Honda and Yamaha outbid the ZX-10R. Incidentally, despite all the power, a steering damper is not provided.
The new maximum is to be realized by a newly designed engine which, for the first time at Kawasaki, combines the cylinder block and upper half of the housing in one cast part. With a 76 millimeter bore and 55 stroke, the twin-cam four-cylinder will be the shortest-stroke in its class, thanks to its large Boh-
large valve cross-sections and brilliant turning capacity. For good
Kawasaki relies on a double throttle valve system similar to the Suzuki GSX-R 750 and 1000 as well as a roller system in the exhaust. The ZX-10R has an adjustable anti-hopping clutch because very light motorcycles tend to lift the rear wheel when braking hard and the rear wheel suspension is often stamped. As with the Yamaha YZF-R1, the gear shafts are stacked on top of each other to save overall length, so that a long swing arm can be installed despite the easy-to-use short wheelbase. Good for driving behavior.
The Greens go their own way with the chassis. Narrow and yet not too high is the motto, too-
in favor of aerodynamics, ergonomics and freedom from lean angles. Apparently, the engine is so compact that it is the
Engineers were able to allow frame profiles of considerable overall height even over the engine instead of on the side of it
to pull by. Extremely delicate wheels and the wave-shaped brake discs minimize the unsprung mass.
The VN 2000 shows how the new radicalism can be transferred to the cruiser sector. Although Triumph has already set the standard in terms of displacement, power and torque with the Rocket III (see page 18), Kawa still deserves the credit to bring the largest two-cylinder. With a 103 millimeter bore and a record-breaking 123 millimeter stroke, this is awesome-
ge engine to 2053 cubic centimeters and over 100 hp. And even that
Torque power of the Honda VTX 1800, 156 Nm after all, easily surpasses the VN with around 180 Nm. The fact that this engine is not a revamped unit either, but is completely new, is shown by its still reasonably compact dimensions; despite significantly more stroke
he is only two millimeters higher than
the VN-1600-Brummer. In addition to the technical highlights, particularly noticeable: an instrument, lamp and fork cover that chrome fans will love and polish dearly.
The Z 750 is of a different kind, specifically tailored to European roads, as a smaller version of the successful Z 1000 model. What was written about it in the last MOTORRAD? Injection, around 110 hp, price around 7000 euros, has been confirmed. There is now one
some technical details. Once again, the most striking feature is the bore-to-stroke ratio. 68.4 by 50.9 millimeters prove that the engine is actually a downed 1000, which, as a mid-range engine, is allowed to convert the rather long stroke into smooth running and rich torque. Despite this contrast to the high-performance engine of the ZX-10R, the Z 750 also has a double-
throttle system. And the wheel design of the ZX-10R was also adopted. With 3.5 and 5.5 inch rim widths, which are equipped with 120 and 180 tires, you can expect homogeneous steering properties.
As the novelty story about Kawasaki began, so it goes
to its end. With a super sports car and a cruiser, more precisely with the
ZX-6RR and the VN 1600. Yes, that’s right-
tig: Kawasaki is launching a second edition of the RR as a basic motorcycle for supersport races. This ensures the supply of the racing scene. Good to know because the 150 copies that came to Germany at the beginning of this year were sold out almost immediately. On the one hand, the VN 1600 serves as the basis
the VN 1500 Mean Streak, on the other hand the engine of the well-known VN 1600 Classic. It wasn’t a-
fOh, taken over, but got new cylinder heads, which increase the performance by six to 73 hp. Nothing serious has changed on the chassis side. At least one can assume that a stiffer swing arm is not as important for cruiser fans as it is for a sports driver with racetrack ambitions.
