Presentation of the BMW R 1150 R.

Beautiful colorful world

If so much good happens to you, then it’s worth a new edition: Because BMW immediately placed itself at the top of the bestseller list with the revised GS, the Bavarians are pushing the R 1150 R immediately this year ?? and proceed according to the proven recipe for success. A fundamental technical revision goes hand in hand with extensive bodywork. The direction of attack was clearly mapped out. The tall nude should be sportier while maintaining all everyday qualities.
So it’s only logical to give the roadster more power. From now on, this part is taken over by the engine from the R 1150 GS, which was transplanted into the R together with the drive train. That means 85 HP instead of the previous 80 and a torque increase of one Newton meter (98 instead of 97), which should be available over a much larger speed range. BMW promises over 90 Nm between 3000 and 6500 rpm.
As with the GS, the power is transmitted via a six-speed gearbox. In contrast to the Enduro sister, the last gear here is not designed as an overdrive (only available as an option), but much shorter. The more sporty demands are also underlined by the new five-spoke rims from the R 1100 S, in the dimensions 5.00 x 17 at the rear. The tire width has grown from 160 to 170 millimeters. The chassis changes, which are supposed to make the R more stable and more manageable at the same time, are rounded off by a strikingly designed trailing arm, which is now supported by a rebound strut on the front frame with a continuously adjustable spring strut and a rear spring strut that can now be adjusted using a handwheel. In addition, the front brake discs grew from 305 to 320 millimeters. BMW promises less manual force with better performance for the brake system called “Evo”. Of course, as before, an ABS is available on request.
UTo put the extensive changes in the right light, the R 1150 R was given a completely new shell. Only the headlights and cockpit remained untouched. Otherwise, however, the roadster presents itself more organically from the striking front fender to the pleasing oil cooler panels and the larger tank to the two-part seat bench. The fact that instead of the previously used, high-build handlebar halves, a classic but wider and flatter tubular handlebar is used and the seating position is more front-wheel-oriented, fits into the new R concept. The fact that a lot of comfort-oriented accessories are available from heated grips to the case system suits BMW. And if none of this suits you, the Bavarians offer you an R 1100 R model with cross-spoke wheels and a special paint job to say goodbye. Then at least the eye has something new to R-Leben.
