Technically, the new model is based on the already available cruiser sister. However, some elements such as the wheels are new.

Only in India

Royal Enfield has launched a new model in India that will come in two versions: the Royal Enfield Thunderbird X.

The bad news first: the new one R.oyal Enfield Thunderbird X will probably only be available in Asia. The bike is unfortunately withheld from the European market. In India the model will be available in two versions, with the two versions differing mainly in terms of the engine.

The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 X was equipped with a 499 cc single cylinder engine that should produce 27.2 hp. The slightly weaker motorized Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X receives the variant with 246 cm³ and 19.8 hp. Both engines were already used in Royal Enfield’s Thunderbird cruiser.

Strong colors instead of chrome

While the Cruiser model mainly attracts attention with its chrome-plated elements, Royal Enfield has given the Thunderbird X stronger colors. In India it is available in the four colors Getaway Orange (500), Drifter Blue (500), Roving Red (350) and Whimsical White (350). The Thunderbird X also looks much more modern compared to its cruiser sister thanks to new wheels, a new seat and, last but not least, the already mentioned colors.

Technical key data

The tubular steel frame comes from the cruiser variant. When it comes to tires, Royal Enfield opted for 19-inch tires at the front and 18-inch tires at the rear, with a wheelbase of 1,350 mm. The tank of the new Thunderbird holds 20 liters. The larger of the two new model variants weighs 197 kilograms (empty weight), the 350 is two kilograms lighter, ABS is not on board. The 350 costs the equivalent of just under 2,000 euros in India. The 500 is about 500 euros more expensive.

The Drifter Blue paintwork is only available on the 500.

Due to the technical basis, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird X will probably not make it to Germany. With the two models Continental GT 650 and Interceptor INT 650 presented at EICMA 2017, there are already two new models in retro clothing for the European market in the starting blocks.
