BMW – you could do that for many years "Bourgeois motorcycle world" translate. But Bayern have changed their image. And this radically aggressive conversion of an HP2 Sport tops it off: The speed cruiser from the two BMW experts Procar and Wunderlich is a super sports car that has chopped in. Quasi a German Ducati Diavel.

The Dalai Lama said it: "Open your arms to change, but don’t lose sight of your values in the process." Jurgen Mueller, Head of Motorcycles at BMW dealer Procar in Cologne-West, designed the Speedcruiser according to this motto. It was built by his team in cooperation with Wunderlich, Sinziger think tank for BMW. For this they stripped an HP2 Sport. Jurgen Mueller had a photo of the BMW Lo Rider concept study on his desk as inspiration. And for over a year an HP2 Sport in your shop, tough to sell for 21,600 euros.

In 2008, this model initiated a paradigm shift at Bayern: towards real super sports, fully suitable for the race track, with absolutely loving detail solutions. Just 206 kilograms, filled with ABS, met 133 hp: the most powerful series boxer of all time and a record for air-cooled twins. Knit a roadster from this fine racer?

Why not, people thought in the undogmatic Rhineland. A cruiser
just on speed. Especially since BMW itself showed with its Lo Rider in 2008 how one and the same base could be used for completely different motorcycle concepts.
D.his one-off here is an absolutely extraordinary BMW. Light as a feather, strong, active driving. The compact speed cruiser shines silver-blue. The black engine including the drive train and the royal blue, rudimentary frame are unchanged from the HP2 Sport super sports car.

Enormous: huge cat and tilt-friendly high built-in boxer.

The wide superbike handlebars stretch far across the front. Although the two-tone GRP tank with its flanks protruding far would be a credit to any desert ship, it only holds 16 liters. To his right sits a shortened snorkel that could easily swallow crow-sized birds. Behind it, Wunderlich’s fat Ergo single seat with integrated LED indicators and rear lights appears to float freely in the air. It actually rests on fancy, brushed aluminum, five millimeters thick. Sure, the HP2 Sport has a self-supporting carbon tail with an underseat exhaust. No tail, no exhaust. So the laser muffler is now classically stretched up on the left.

The spoke wheels instead of the cast rims set the style: 17-inch rims from Behr spoked onto GS hubs. Carbon, carbon everywhere: This is what the valve cover, the instrument housing on the tank and the front and rear fenders consist of. The counterpoint to the futuristic, sporty design is provided by heat bands with which the stainless steel elbows are wrapped. And above all the fat black round headlight. Don’t forget to drive out of sheer admiration.

Wow, even the first seat rehearsal puts you in a good mood. Feels good. Open your arms: broad-shouldered, fat and casual you are enthroned, high and comfortable. Upright, sublime, sovereign. But also a little far back. Cruiser? More like a street fighter. The feet are parked on ABM pegs without a rubber pad, really real.

The 1200 boxer wakes up with a bark. The pentagonal muffler snorts and hammers, grumbles with true drum rolls in push mode. But after the throttle valves are completely closed, the engine itself accelerates smoothly and without choking. Finely tuned is called something like that. Just don’t misunderstand: the heart of a boxer, it still beats and pounds wildly.

Comfortable Ergo single seat with integrated LED taillights.

The sporting spirit awakens at medium speeds. Like an invisible fist, he grabs horse and rider as he turns and hurls them forward with force. No wonder, the slimming diet should bring you ten kilograms. Then this BMW would only weigh 196 kilograms. Crouch down, right away. Wrooop, wrooop, when upshifting, the automatic gearshift interrupts the ignition for a fraction of a second. Phew, something’s going on. At the top, that’s pure greed for turning. The thing here runs easily on the speedometer 260, is still a super sports motorcycle. The HP2 genes really hit through. This BMW wants to drive. Today the cow flies!

She wants to be picked up, not just sniffing around. But she can also stroll. In contrast to the HP2 Sport and every other low-flying aircraft, the Speedcruiser is pure driving pleasure even at legal country road speeds. The forearms don’t hurt right away when you jerk around behind dozing drivers. And a twist of the right wrist fixes everything.

Seldom have you been so relaxed and fast, you were almost never relaxed so quickly.
The chassis keeps up. Okay, Continental’s Sport Attack tires take some time to get up to temperature. But once warmed up, they really flu. Then it’s boldly around the corner. In the first bends, you tend to turn too far inwards, because the Powercruiser with its wide handlebars sticks into the asphalt arches so easily. The narrow 180 rear tire makes sense. Function is more important than optics. The freedom to tilt, it is unfathomable. To the right, at most, the license plate placed on the side of the cardan comes on. But it requires a clean look. Its holder is TÜV-approved, like all important parts of the speed cruiser.

With its wealth of information, the LCD dashboard comes from racing.

Damn true to track, the speed cruiser. As if he had locked himself into rails under the asphalt. The golden yellow shiny spring elements from Ohlins work great. However, the shock absorber is very tight and uncomfortable on mogul slopes. Actually, it should also provide maximum traction on racetracks. Frank Hoffmann, suspension expert at Wunderlich, wants to equip the second speed cruiser with a softer set-up. And with a shorter final drive, translated to around 210 km / h. For even more beefy draft. Then Brembo’s monobloc four-piston calipers will get even more to do. They bite the sawtooth brake discs like a great white shark in the diver’s leg: incredibly powerful.

Criticisms? The mirror is not very considerate, and the shift linkage works its way into the swing arm on the prototype. The turning circle is immensely large. Like the price. Procar and Wunderlich are launching a small series of the speed cruiser for around 35,000 euros. And conversion kits for 15,000 euros, including pure material costs of around 10,000 euros. In return, there is a roadster with its very own aura.
