A Ducati 1098/1198 S that has grown naturally is already demanding. Ducati Berlin put one up and turned it into a vamp, a real man eater "1260 R" transformed. If it is too strong, you are too weak.

Chest out, stomach in Men – otherwise she’ll bite you while standing! This delicious 1098 R is the real monster from Frankenstein’s workshop. Visually, however, far removed from the original film, because a screw across the head has, if at all, the creator of the monster – not his creature. It’s also good for the pilot not to be the squeamish kind, but we’ll get to that later.

Review: D.At the last Tuner GP, ucati Berlin always started with naked people – strong naked people. In 2008 they unloaded a Monster 1098, in 2009 they hit a pimped Streetfighter. The eyelid twitches when suddenly a 1098 R is conjured out of the transporter this year. Disguise or stub handlebars, one thing is certain: the stove will be fed up with performance. After all, so did the naked. The test bench then attests in black and white a cuddly 199 PS and a massive 148 Newton meters of torque at 8500 rpm on the crankshaft. Not only does the huge echo of thunder during the measurement leave you speechless – the facts and the values determined are enough. Where does all the smoke come from?

Simply swapping parts, i.e. reaching into the expensive Ducati Performance or even more expensive Ducati Corse shelf, is no longer sufficient for this power. So a displacement expansion is needed. Nothing works on the bore side of the 1198 cubic engine. Replacing the 106 millimeter diameter pistons with even larger ones would be like walking through a minefield and would be very painful and expensive. All that remains is to increase the stroke. In fact, this increased from 67.9 to 71.5 millimeters – 1198 cubic meters became 1260 and the compression increased from 12.8: 1 to 14.0: 1. The Italian connecting rods were replaced by steel connecting rods from Pankl. In addition, there is the usual power make-up from Dynojet and Akrapovic, i.e. PowerCommander III and a complete titanium system of the category "Evo". You could easily get the nickname because of their sound design "Extra bass" or better "Extra awesome" miss.

The hot red looks like any other at first: sporty and aggressive. But on the slopes she becomes a fury monstrosa.

Anyway, it’ll be fine. Swallow once dry, then take a deep breath and get on the hot red. Everything feels like the typical 1098 R. Why not, after all, nothing has been ergonomically changed. So, carefully engage, get out onto the Hockenheimer track and first give the preheated slick a good bang. Bang! But not the tire pulls back, but the Duc. And a nasty hard uppercut straight to the chin. The 1260 R literally leaps on the gas, immediately lifts its front wheel, always and everywhere with such intensity that the pilot almost sees asterisks. Such a brutal cattle has to be forced, it shoots through the head and a hard fight ensues. As soon as the gas tap has been opened, the Duc does manikins – over and over again. Four laps later, the clutch is through – the pilot has won the first lap, but everything is fixed 40 minutes later and the second lap can be started. The red one tugs at the shoulders like a terrier in a rage, tries relentlessly to tear the arms out of the joints.

Shortly before the infarction, the cerebellum reports: out immediately and into the box! Okay, let’s agree on a tie. After the limiter was too early in the Parabolica, the 1260 was given a secondary transmission that was two teeth longer. Off to the final: Lo and behold, the hyper-snappy monster has become an extremely powerful racing motorcycle. The sudden wheeling is cured, the massive power can finally be dosed and used in a driver-friendly manner. The winner is: the lap time! It goes without saying that Frankenstein doesn’t show any nakedness in the section on chassis, with or without a muzzle. After all, finely reworked Ohlins components work at the front and rear, and the BST carbon wheels improve handling. Unfortunately only a little, because despite its meager 178 kilograms and the light wheels, the Duc has to be driven with pressure on the handlebars, and fast changing turns require strength. But the stability of the untamed beast is convincing everywhere. The name has to be adapted accordingly. How about Frankensteinchen?
