Possible defect on the timing chain tensioner
Kawasaki has to recall the Z400 and Ninja 400 models from the 2021 model year in the US. The timing chain tensioner cannot meet the specified specifications.

As announced by the American traffic safety authority NHTSA, Kawasaki will stop deliveries to customers in the USA with immediate effect Ninja 400 from model year 2021.

Material fault on the timing chain tensioner
Parts of the timing chain tensioner on the models in question may be insufficiently hardened. This can lead to increased noise or a defect in the timing chain tensioner. In the worst case, the engine will fail and, under certain circumstances, a fall.

All 2021 models that are already in customer hands will be recalled to the workshops. The drivers are requested to stop driving their motorcycle. There is a delivery stop for all other bikes. Numbered for the USA Kawasaki the number of models affected by the recall to 1,170. In the United States, the recall begins on December 21, 2021. When visiting the workshop, a new timing chain tensioner body is then installed.
No models in Germany affected
No machines are affected by this recall in Germany, as the 400s are not offered as Euro 5 models and therefore not as model year 2021. Kawasaki only sells Euro 4 models from the 2020 model year in this country.

Conclusion
A possibly defective timing chain tensioner forces Kawasaki to recall the Z400 and the Ninja 400 in the USA. It is not yet known whether European models are also affected.
