Drive chain can break

Suzuki of America has launched a recall for the 2017 and 2018 model years Suzuki GSX-R 1000. The reason: the chain can break. Suzuki Germany has also announced a recall.

On the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 models affected by the recall, when shifting from first to second gear, the transmission can get stuck in a neutral position and the engine can unintentionally rev up extremely high without load. If the driver then engages second gear without pulling the clutch, voltage peaks can arise in the final drive, which can lengthen the chain or, in extreme cases, even tear it off. under certain circumstances this can lead to a fall

In the USA, therefore, 3,097 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 of the model years 2017 and 2018 back to the workshop for checking. A new motor control module is then installed there and the entire chain drive, including pinion and chain wheel, is checked.

The problem is said to have first occurred with a model owned by a French Gixxer. Problems in other countries followed. Two models with this defect have also been identified in the USA, which is why a recall will be started in the United States in January.
