In the US, Triumph launched a recall for the 2019 and 2020 model years Triumph Street Scrambler and Street Twin. A wrongly routed cable can hardly be damaged.

During internal investigations, Triumph had found that the cable harness in the area of ​​the steering head could be crushed and thus damaged. Knocking the handlebars can then cause the wiring harness to rub against a tab, which over time leads to wear and possible damage to the cables. As a result, the engine can die unexpectedly. The Triumph models are affected by the problem Street scrambler and Street Twin of model years 2019 and 2020.

According to the documents published by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), i.e. the American counterpart to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, the following motorcycles are affected by the recall:

2019-2020 Street Scrambler, VIN SMTD44GN1KT920110 through VIN SMTD44GN3LTAB9482; produced between October 15, 2018 and April 21, 2020.

2019-2020 Street Twin, VIN SMTD31GN3KT918702 through VIN SMTD31GN6LTAB9140; produced between October 4th, 2018 and April 15th, 2020.

Both models are produced in Thailand.

Recalls in Germany and the USA

The recall from Triumph Germany has also started, the owners will probably be contacted by the KBA in week 35.
The recall in the US has been running since August 23, 2020. Triumph will notify owners by mail, who can make an appointment with their dealer. There, the cable harness on the affected models is checked free of charge, relocated and, if necessary, replaced. Motorcycles that have not yet been delivered are checked and converted directly at the dealer. The repair of motorcycles that have already been sold has priority. This is what the laws in the USA provide on which a recall action is based. In the USA, manufacturers are obliged to actively report possible problems with their vehicles to the authorities. Failure to do so will result in severe penalties.
