And lead us into temptation

You: Short legs and only a delicate career as a passenger. He: For a long time a pillion passenger and totally petrol-savvy. Both: Today for the first time on the bike myself. Your conclusion: could hardly be more different.

Still an hour. The nervousness is palpable and manifests itself in small jokes and teasing. Jenny (23) and Michi (28) are at the registration, put their autograph under the limitation of liability. That was probably the easiest part of the evening. While Michi comes straight from work and still has to be equipped with protective clothing, thanks to her semester break, Jenny had the whole day to prepare in peace – and to choose between two different pairs of motorcycle boots. A woman also wants to look good on a motorcycle, even if it’s only in a locked parking lot for two hours.

The southern German motorcycle company Limbacher offered eight of these dates for motorcycling without a license & Limbacher in August 2016. And with up to twelve participants it was almost always fully booked. Today there are eleven people who are initially being chauffeured to the Stuttgart exhibition center car park on four wheels. There, butter pretzels soothe the nerves of the more or less volunteers – the eight women in particular were mostly encouraged by their partners to ride a motorcycle for the first time here today. So it is already clear that this event is not suitable as a dating site despite the surplus of women who know how to liven up the male biker’s heart in their crisp clothing. But that’s not the point either.

Nothing like getting on your bike!

It’s about driving experience, sound and emotions. And the performance of the driving instructor Darija Tomasic, who is supposed to give the participants two exciting hours on various Honda motorcycles, is designed to match. She can be heard on her white Ducati Hypermotard for a long time before she finally appears on the horizon of the trade fair car park and comes to a sharp stop in front of the participants at 5 p.m. So let’s get on your bike! Up – at least that applies to Jenny, who as the smallest participant in the field of drivers is allowed to take a seat on the smallest motorcycle in the fleet, while Darija teaches her and the assembled crowd how the hand and foot levers work.

So start the engine, engage first gear, let the “absolute emergency lever” come slowly – and it rolls away with envious glances. She practices starting and stopping four times, then there is no stopping the rest of the group either. Helmet on, gloves on. Shortly afterwards everyone swung themselves into a saddle – even the slight fall of a participant cannot tarnish collective happiness. Tucked in the broken brake lever as a souvenir, she set in motion together with the crowd. 1-N-2-3. The three gentlemen in particular soon discovered the gearshift scheme on their own and made full use of the resulting speed advantage – in the form of small sprints, with a winner always being chosen at the end of the parking lot lane, lap after lap. Jenny’s lead on her white MSX is therefore melting more and more. Regardless, she enjoys every meter. Michi, on the other hand, the intoxication of speed.

First bike swap after 40 minutes

Whether fast or slow, all eleven participants are led by driving instructor Darija and the three gentlemen from L&L professionally looked after. And when the first bike swap is due after forty minutes, everyone is actually initiated into the basics of mastering a motorcycle and the secrets of the two-wheel gearshift scheme. It doesn’t matter that Michi has to switch to the automatically driven NC 750 X. Jenny, however, stays with her little Honda. And barely ten minutes later, both of them are chasing through the hatched slalom.

Just like you would have to do with the driving test. They are being observed by an increasing number of young men – all partners of the women who drive very confidently. And so the next big motorcycle swap will lead to a lively exchange between the self-proclaimed professionals and their up-and-coming racing amazons.

Where is the nearest driving school?

Jenny and her MSX also come into the box and have grown by ten centimeters with pride. And yet the short legs still barely reach the ground. This is exactly how it works with a lowered CB 500 F. Driving instructor Darija advises simply not to stop. Michi, who can now make friends with the sporty CBR 300, has hardly any problems. While he leans deep into the curve at the end of the square with his machine, Darija explains the technique of pushing for the slalom.

7 p.m., after work. Jenny stops, smiles and asks about possible driving schools in the area. Michi’s judgment, however, is less euphoric: Not that he didn’t like it. But he is simply a sportsman – and as such, he is probably far too dangerous on the road. He is convinced that this cannot work in the long term. So for the time being he will continue to keep his back free for his wife as a pillion passenger. For Jenny, it will probably not just be the certificate of attendance that was subsequently presented. With the rest of the group, she toasts an accident-free two-wheeler future. And lets her gaze wander dreamily over the numerous bikes in the showroom – all of which she may soon be able to ride.
