She came, was seen ?? but not bought. So she left again. The second-hand SV-1000 models are now a real top tip.

It’s actually a sad story: there is a pretty nice motorcycle with a brilliant engine at a reasonable price, and everyone is turning away. Even the manufacturer dropped the SV 1000 and its half-clad S variant in 2005 after less than three years of market presence like a hot potato and took them out of the range in Germany. Obviously the Japanese were the sales figures ?? a total of almost 5000 pieces of both models ?? too low. Similar bestseller qualities were expected from the SV 1000 / S as from its little sister SV 650 / S.

It is idle to speculate about the reasons for the comparatively low popularity of the thousands. And ultimately there is a positive side to the story, at least for used buyers who can find a really good and above all inexpensive alternative to all kinds of new goods in the second-hand offer. the SV 1000 with an impeccable, stable chassis is the ideal base for naked bike pilots who want to tackle every tour and journey with a great sporting spirit. The SV 1000 S has minor, but easy-to-fix chassis weaknesses, but thanks to the half-shell cladding, it has better wind protection. What they both have in common is the magnificent V2 engine. This spreads such exuberant mood with unbridled power, revving and performance that the SV-1000 models can be celebrated as savvy underdogs despite the somewhat dreary history of the model and put a smile on many used buyers’ faces.

Suzuki

Burns gasoline, ignites passions – the V2 engine is top notch.

Since the SV 1000 / S, as a formidable road sweeper, occasionally seduces you to over-zeal, fall marks are not uncommon. In particular, the prominently placed coolers can be affected even if they fall over harmlessly. Therefore, it is better to take a look twice instead of worrying about expensive follow-up costs later. Mechanically, there is little to complain about on the overall well-made motorcycle, the V2 engine is considered to be very unproblematic. With the S version from 2003, the chassis can be noticeably optimized with the following accessories and modifications: steering damper from LSL (around 180 euros, phone 02151/55590), shock absorber from Ohlins (around 950 euros, via Zupin, phone 0 86 69/84 80) or, as an inexpensive conversion variant, simply replace the original spring of the rear damper (spring rate 80 kg / cm) with a softer one from Wilbers (around 90 euros, phone 05921/727170).

Market situation

In the “S.” In 2004, the previously criticized seating position was adjusted to the successful version of the naked version.

The SV 1000 / S was taken off the market when it was young, so the range is very manageable, and exciting second-hand offers require some research. A noticeable number of dealers advertise vehicles that are almost as good as new, but at prices over 7,000 euros, interest in these offers is rather restrained. Precisely because the large SV is no longer part of the Suzuki program as a new vehicle, the dealers nevertheless report an increased, targeted demand for the 1000 series. The S model in particular is very popular with well-informed two-cylinder fans, provided the price is well below 5500 euros. Private sellers have good sales opportunities if they offer their Suzuki with useful extras and at a little cheaper than inexpensive dealers.
