Off-road motorcycles with electric drive

Segway has presented a new electric motorcycle for the off-road sector, which is called Dirt eBike and will be available in the two versions X260 and X160.

S.egway? Isn’t that the two-wheeled vehicles that are often derisively derided that you see now and then in larger city centers? Although the manufacturer Segway, which has been part of the Chinese company Ninebot since 2015, is actually associated with the one-person means of transport just mentioned, other vehicles such as go-karts or eScooters are also in the portfolio. From 2020, another vehicle will be added with the dirt eBike, which could be of interest to all off-road fans.

Electric bike for off-road in two versions

The never-new Segway Dirt eBike will be available in two versions from 2020: X260 and X160. The two versions differ mainly in terms of performance, size and weight. The stronger and larger variant is the X260, which should allow a maximum speed of 75 km / h and a maximum range of almost 120 kilometers. This is made possible by a 32 Ah lithium battery that can be fully charged in four hours. The electric motor should produce around 6.7 hp. A 19 inch device is used at the front. For off-road use, a long and fully adjustable upside-down fork is essential. When it comes to weight, Segway states a feather-light 55 kilograms. The 260 also has a headlight for driving in rather darker conditions.

Visually, the two Segways do not differ that much.

The lightweight aluminum frame is also used on the smaller Segway Dirt eBike X160. Compared to the 260, the wheelbase is a little shorter and is 1,250 mm – the 260 is 1,265 mm. In addition, the seat height has been lowered from 810 mm to 760 mm. In the smaller version, Segway uses a 20 Ah lithium battery, which can also be recharged in four hours and should enable a maximum range of up to just under 65 kilometers. In addition, the engine only produces 5 hp, which means that the top speed, which should be around 50 km / h, is lower. In addition, Segway equips the 160er with a 17-inch front. But the X160 should be a little lighter and weigh only 47 kilograms. The headlight has also been omitted from the smaller Segway. Potential buyers will therefore have to do without off-road trips in the dark.

Delivery is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2020

In principle, the Segway bikes are technically based on the Sur-Ron Light Bee, which we have known since the end of 2018. Although the manufacturer has not yet mentioned how much the two new bikes will cost in Germany, prices for the USA are already known: The X260 will be available for 4,999 US dollars. Segway charges $ 2,999 for the smaller X160. The two Segways will be launched on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo on November 25, 2019. Pre-orderers can save up to $ 500 there. It remains to be seen whether the two Segway bikes will even find their way to Germany.
