Piaggio Hexagon 125

Ambiguous character: a snappy two-stroke 125 gives the comfortable Piaggio Hexagon steam

Sofa scooters like the Piaggio Hexagon 150 and the Honda CN 250 Helix were previously reserved for holders of driver’s license one and 1a. With the HPiaggio remedied this problem with exagon 125. Its water-cooled two-stroke engine precisely exhausts the 15 hp limit. A 80 km / h version is not planned, however, and the new one simply leaves its bigger brother and the rest of the scooter competition behind at the traffic light sprint. From zero to 50 km / h in 3.5 seconds – only the 28 kilogram lighter Piaggio SKR 125 undercuts this value by four tenths of a second. The fact that the Hexagon 125 accelerates so brilliantly is thanks to the happy cooperation of its well-coordinated automatic system with a really snappy engine that is great at the gas. On the other hand, the muscle man does not hold back acoustically or in his drinking habits. The fact that Piaggio did not want to part with the ten-inch wheels with the Hexagon is not without consequences for driving behavior. The longship is surprisingly nimble and manoeuvrable in the city, but it likes to follow longitudinal grooves, twitches when driving over markings with the handlebar and occasionally performs a little dance in curves with uneven road surfaces. The comfortable coordination of the strut in the front short swing arm is not entirely innocent of this. It is very sensitive and smooths all roads, but could do with a tighter cushioning. At the rear, there is a not quite as underdamped mono-spring strut, which with three adjustment options of the spring base does justice to all occurring load conditions. There is little to criticize about the brakes. The well-adjustable disc brake at the front requires a lot of grip, but it slows down vehemently. And the rear drum is strong enough to lock the wheel entrusted to it at any time if required. There seems to be no shortage of space on the hexagon. Above all, the driver has plenty of leg room; the raised treads at the front, in combination with the extendable backrest, enable a very relaxed sitting position. However, the high handlebars are too close for a long time and the windshield produces annoying wind noise on the helmet. The latter can be remedied with a larger disc available as an extra, but the draft around the legs cannot. The pillion passenger can look forward to a small backrest and handles, but his seat turned out to be quite short. The spacious luggage compartment of the Hexagon is practical once the resistance of the stiff lock has been overcome. When it comes to equipment, there is a decent cockpit with a trip meter and adequate light, facing the sometimes stubborn switches and mirrors that are too small. The filler openings for oil and fuel were not overly practical under a flap in the center tunnel, and the side stand is secured by a return spring instead of an ignition interruption.
