Model 2007 in check

The new generation of the Triumph Sprint ST wants to be more than just a sports tourer. With a standard luggage set and other modifications that make touring more pleasant, she wants to distinguish herself as the ideal travel companion.

Friends of the Triumph Sprint ST will be delighted. In any case, everyone who hasn’t bought one to this day but has been flirting with it for a long time. Less those who already have one. Because the 2007 model of the sports tourer costs as much as its predecessor at 12,400 euros including ancillary costs, and the buyer also receives a set of suitcases painted in the vehicle color, virtually free of charge. Previously this had to be ordered separately for a good 700 euros, but it is part of the standard equipment on the new model. The last copies of the old model are now being sold for 11,240 euros including ancillary costs.

With the suitcases, the ST is quite wide despite only 28 liters of storage volume. As a reminder: Since the beginning of 2006, the previously very unstable cases have been built with double walls for stiffening, which has shrunk the volume. In addition to the luggage system, Triumph has made other changes to the new machine to make traveling more pleasant. The previously installed flat, short windshield is replaced as standard by the steeper and more strongly contoured windshield, which has only been part of Triumph accessories since then. This significantly reduces both the wind pressure in the helmet area and the noise level, which is why long motorway journeys at high speeds are less strenuous.

The fact that you sit more comfortably on the new Sprint ST is helped by the handlebar halves, which are almost three centimeters upwards and slightly backwards. The upper body is much less supported by the wrists. Nevertheless, the posture remains stretched for a long time. Big drivers hardly mind, but smaller people will still criticize it. You will be more pleased that the contour of the bench is a bit slimmer and that it is easier to reach the floor with your legs when standing.

The 127 hp three-cylinder underwent only minor changes. Smooth throttle response, bearish performance characteristics and power in all speed ranges gave no reason to act. And with the revised Keihin engine management, the Sprint ST now meets
the Euro 3 requirements. The criticism of the poor starting behavior of the three-cylinder is history. Under all conditions, including cool temperatures, the motor turns reliably with a short push of a button. By intervening in the engine management, the English wanted to reduce fuel consumption at the same time. Unfortunately, this was not confirmed in the test. At very restrained country road speed, the injection system still approves 5.7 liters of premium fuel per 100 kilometers. Consumption remained unchanged at a constant 130 motorway speed, with an average of 5.4 liters being an acceptable value.
