Deep snow skiing with the MOTORRAD action team

No excuses, just do it: get out of everyday life, clear your head, just feel yourself for a few days “Motorcycling” in the deep snow of northern Sweden with the MOTORRAD action team.

That thing is an animal. 150 two-stroke horsepower ready to catapult you into orbit. Without shifting, just by pressing your thumb, the Polaris Rush Pro R 800 explodes forward, stretching the skis up into the sky, so directly, so directly, so effortlessly that even a super sporty motorcycle is awkward against it.

On the endless expanses of the frozen lakes, speeds are possible that will take your breath away. Just like the steep turns in the deep snow of untouched nature, or passages that lead diagonally into the sky, to the summit of the lonely mountains. The clouds are tearing up at the top and the view is fantastic.

On the descent you glide through birch forests. Just stop. Turn off the engine in the deepest wilderness. The silence is deafening, almost unearthly. You wait, become one with this land that looks like the first day of creation. Then you put your hands on the heated grips of the motorcycle handlebars, the power plant wakes up at the push of a button and you glide through the deep snow. Feel like the first person ago. Slow, enjoyable or fast and sporty, you decide with a minimal movement of your thumb.

Of course it’s cold, but you won’t freeze in the high-tech station wagon provided.

A thousand snow crystals shine in the sunlight when your snowmobile sweeps over the fresh white like a motorcycle, when the strong and wide drive belt bites into the ground and catapults you forward. Happiness hormones flood you in this vast, pristine world. You don’t feel the biting minus temperatures, you just feel your heart because you can clear your head for the first time in months. Of course it’s cold, but you won’t freeze in your high-tech station wagon, you can feel the sun’s rays and warmth from within, it pushes you on and on. Your friend Dani and the guide Joakim are waiting on the shore of a lake: “The ice could be thin, we are only safe if we drive very fast.”

After the sauna, head to the outdoor pool.

Fast is not a problem, you sweep across the lake like a jet taking off. The surface is not always smooth. Gaps and faults want to be recognized, the elaborately designed chassis swallows a lot, but not everything, the runners like to follow grooves, but after a few hours you have settled in, the first power slides succeed, the first lob of the outer runners. Snowmobile driving is pure fun, the joy of life, the joy of nature, the vastness, the clear air. Everything here looks healthy, fresh and strong, the snow, the trees, people, animals, the sky, it is the total winter paradise. In the evening you will feel the first sore muscles, enjoy the sauna and cold beer.

Travel information

Werel

Travel time: 4 days. Distance: approx. 500 kilometers.

Arvidsjaur in Swedish Lapland is the perfect starting point for exciting snowmobile tours. Together with experienced guides, you will experience the grandiose nature of the Arctic Circle.

General:
The MOTORRAD-action team snowmobile tours take place either directly from Arvidsjaur (Airport of arrival) instead of or from Gallivare, which means a 3.5 hour transfer north from the airport. While Arvidsjaur is around 125 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, Gallivare is already a good 100 kilometers north of it. In Gallivare traditional but comfortable wooden huts await the participants, in Arvidsjaur you can enjoy the luxury of a four-star hotel. The daily stages are between 80 and 120 kilometers through the most charming winter landscapes: over frozen lakes and up high mountains. The tour package (from 1490 euros) includes flights, overnight stays including full board, fully comprehensive insurance, thermal rental equipment, snowmobile rental, German-speaking tour guide, travel price insurance certificate. The national language in the travel area is Swedish, and many residents speak English very well. The currency is the Swedish krona. One euro is equivalent to about 8.61 kroner.

Snowmobiling:
Both two-stroke and four-stroke snowmobiles are available from the MOTORRAD action team contract partners. Because the devices are more or less motorized, they should be climbed with respect. Too fast, abrupt or thoughtless actions can lead to loss of control, but if you slowly approach the snowmobile-specific characteristics, the snowmobiles can be moved easily by almost anyone. The steering behavior takes some getting used to because steering impulses are not implemented as easily as on a motorcycle. The high school of driving (wheelies and inclines on a runner) should only be approached after a sufficient acclimatization phase. Basically, you sit very comfortably on the snowmobiles, your feet are placed on running boards and should stay there, the handlebars are held loosely with almost outstretched arms, just like on a motorcycle. When starting off, you should shift your weight forward, lean on the inside of the bend when cornering more quickly, as with a motorcycle. All snowmobiles have automatic transmissions including reverse gear. You accelerate by pressing the spring-loaded thumb throttle, which is located on the inside of the handlebar. All levers are heated. The brakes act on the drive belt. This is dimensioned differently depending on the model and, in addition to chassis geometry and track width, ensures different driving characteristics. The action team guides give intensive instructions for the respective mobile and are on hand with help and advice.

Driving fun without limits: Once you’ve got it, you can get through almost anywhere with the snowmobile.

Fitness:
Since it can be physically demanding to move these vehicles for longer, a good physical condition is advantageous. Interested parties with acute back problems or completely unsportsmanlike people should not consider a snowmobile tour, blows to the back can occur especially on deadlocked slopes.

Insurance:
For the snowmobiles, the normal traffic insurance and fully comprehensive insurance are taken out in Sweden. The deductible in the event of damage is 1500 euros. Participants are recommended to take out health insurance including repatriation. Usually the driver’s license is sufficient to drive a snowmobile.

Climate / travel time:
The tours take place from January to mid / late March. During this time of year temperatures of minus 25 degrees and below are possible, but the cold is dry and therefore very well tolerated. If the thermometer falls below minus 30 degrees, the tour can be canceled to prevent possible frostbite. In these cases, alternative programs are offered.
