Test Voxan Black Magic

Still shot

As it already stands: artfully curved stainless steel elbows, Supertrap-like mufflers, brushed aluminum tank and a V-motor that openly shows every fiber of its muscles. Actually, the Voxan Black Magic is almost too good to test.

Dizziness ?? the black magic is not black at all! At least it’s not those dominant games that magically cast a spell like that
elongated, silver aluminum tank, which rests on the forearm-thick steel tubes towards the bench. It borrows from original English fuel barrels from the 50s and 60s, which adorned a Norton Manx or Venom Thruxton, for example. Or the exhaust system with its stainless steel manifold that is golden yellow from the heat of the battle. They nestle virtuously from back to front and back again around the V-shaped cylinders, and then, after a breathtaking curve, lie high in a long one
Just transfer. Just below the bench, they lead to the rear, and like a cork on a champagne bottle, two voluminous rear silencers complete the work of art. There is no space for a two-up bench. Only for a one-man hump that holds two wings over the exhaust clamps to protect a ray.
It would have been more practical that long
To cover the tailpipe at the same time, so that the rising heat does not hit the thighs-
kel maltreated. No problem as long as the wind blows the hot air backwards. Comes the Voxan comes to a standstill, the driver can only pull back and hope that the red light doesn’t last too long.
Enough looked, the engine is now humming, the Black Magic is, fine-
no matter what, now tested. The long tank, the short hump and the stub handlebars mounted under the upper triple clamp result in a stretched, sporty ride-
attitude. If it weren’t for the too high-mounted footrests, because of which the pilot has to fold down like a jackknife from the waist down, they would even be considered comfortable. So it doesn’t help that the notches can be adjusted four times in height and length, as the most favorable position has already been selected.
When riding the Black Magic, your knees belong to the tank ?? if only because of the limited space. Everything else would also look stylish. However, a slight hanging-off as a weight shift would certainly be appropriate. Because the 220 kilogram Voxan doesn’t drive around the corner by itself. Long wheelbase and narrow handlebars? that resists quick changes of direction. Likewise, the rather soft suspension setup opposes a decidedly sporty driving style. The adjustability of the damping and spring base on the upside-down fork and on the central spring strut can only change that little, as both are fundamental-
Lich are designed for comfort. In addition, the Brembo four-piston calipers require a strong hand if they are to be precise and precise at high speeds
Grab the floating front brake discs properly.
The Black Magic is inclined and quick. The combination of 60 millimeter thick steel tubes and a flanged steering head and swing arms-
storage ensures a torsion-resistant frame construction. The high set footrests allow enormous diagonals-
and the Michelin Pilot Power build up plenty of grip in order to whistle around the corner with the Voxan in a sporty, ambitious and precise manner.
The engine delivers the matching soundtrack. Completely free from the bridge frame, the water-cooled 72-degree V-twin-cylinder hums to itself without annoying mechanical noises, emphasizing the bass. It rumbles with every burst of gas
Original sounds from the mighty end pots. From 3500 rpm the engine pushes off with gentle force, mobilizing steadily increasing up to 98 measured horsepower, that at 8400
Revolutions are reached. Accompanied by typical two-cylinder vibrations that act like a gentle massage for the driver, the V-Twin turns without a balance shaft, but with a successful mass balance and a good flywheel mass, and generates lively pressure. It has to be like that,
that’s how you want to feel it.
Data and facts cannot hide what acoustics and driving experience can hide. Considered soberly, the performance of the Black Magic for a 1000cc two-cylinder is modest and neither in acceleration nor in pulling can the Voxan Cafe Racer tested at the beginning of last year come close. The cause: the Euro 2 standard. Nominally three HP less (95 instead of 98 HP) and translated by three teeth longer, it costs in all dis-
zipline time. So the Black Magic loses
for example, when accelerating from zero to 200 km / h with 15.2 to 12.8 full
2.4 seconds. Or in the pull-through from 60 to 100 km / h with 6.0 to 4.8 you are also 1.2 seconds short.
The long gear ratio, but also the poor throttle response below 3000 rpm, contribute to the fact that you have to use the precisely shiftable six-speed gearbox more often than usual when driving on brisk country roads. For some tight bends even down to first gear. So it is not surprising that the fuel consumption on brisk country roads cracks the seven-liter mark.
But in view of the proud purchase price of around 15,000 euros, the V-Twin’s ease of drinking hardly matters. Exclusivity has always had its price? only 250 copies are to be built by the Black Magic, as Voxan announced.
