The BMW R 1200 GS is not in first place in this ranking. And at least half of the motorcycles cannot be found in the general top 20 ranking of new registrations. Women are different, also when it comes to the choice of their bikes.

Only eleven models of the general top 20 new registrations in 2018 can be found in the ranking of the most popular women’s bikes. And most of them had to completely rearrange themselves. The Kawasaki Z 650, in 4th place overall, tops the list of the most popular women’s motorcycles in 2018. In second place is the Yamaha MT-07, which also took second place in the overall ranking, but was still number 1 in the women’s category the year before.

The KTM 390 Duke made it into the top 20 of the most popular women’s motorcycles in 9th place and the KTM 790 Duke in 10th place P14, the Triumph Street Triple on P15, the Yamaha MT-03 on P17 and the Suzuki GSX-S 750 on P18.

The KTM 690 Duke recorded the lowest fall within the top 20, dropping from 5th place (2017) to 20th place (2018). Whereby the tip of the scales from places 15 to 20 is only one model. All of the top 20 of 2018 said goodbye: BMW F 700 GS (P7), Honda NC 750 S (P10), Ducati Scrambler (P14), Honda NC 750 X (P15), Yamaha Tracer 700 and Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron 883.

With two exceptions – BMW R 1200 GS and Harley Sportster Forty-Eight – all top 20 bikes have a displacement of less than 1,000 cm³, which is mainly due to the criteria of seat height and maneuverability when maneuvering.

New motorcycle registrations for women

The total new registrations of motorized two-wheelers in 2018 amounted to 156,352 units, of which 12.0 percent were owned by women and 71.6 percent by men. The remaining 16.4 percent are commercial approvals. Expressed in absolute numbers: 18,687 new two-wheelers were registered for women in 2018, 111,978 for men.

For motorcycles (a total of 107,581 new registrations), the market share of women is 10.1 percent (10,812), that of men is 70.0 percent (75,348) and commercial registrations make up 19.9 percent (21,421).

Light motorcycles, scooters, small scooters

For light motorcycles (a total of 17,699 new registrations) the proportion of women is 19.5 percent (3,447), for men it is 73.1 percent (12,934), commercial registrations are 7.4 percent (1,318).

The distribution of market shares is similar for scooters: 10.3 percent of a total of 13,838 new registrations are for women, 79.2 percent for men, and 10.5 percent are commercial registrations.

In the case of light scooters (up to 125 cm³ displacement), 18.9 percent are approved for women, 74.1 percent run for men, 7.0 percent are commercial approvals.
