This is how it works: Transport the motorcycle

Bland sections of the motorway and tough traffic jams are not a suitable way to start a vacation on a motorcycle. That is why more and more bikers only get on their bikes at their holiday destination. The tour there spends the two on board the four-wheeler. Transport is not rocket science. With a little routine and the right equipment, loading can be done quickly. The simplest and cheapest solution is the trailer – provided the car has a suitable coupling. Standard trailers are offered from around 500 euros or can be rented nationwide at low rates. However, you have to get used to the speed limit (in Germany a maximum of 100 km / h). You get ahead faster if you stow the bike on the rear rack or – if space allows – in the car. It is best to practice the first loading actions with a helper. Particularly when loading or unloading, many a wobbly situation can be avoided. Aids such as lashing straps and brackets can be obtained from specialist motorcycle dealers or from major chain stores (Louis, Polo, Gericke).

Tips and tricks for everything to do with motorcycle transport

1. Drive up: A sturdy board or a beer bench is sufficient. However, a ribbed rail with raised side walls, which offer a secure hold and reduce the risk of slipping, is better.

2. Record: The safest way to transport motorcycles is to pull them far into the springs with tension belts. The lower triple clamp offers a suitable mount for bare motorcycles.

3. Bracing: First, slightly pretension the belt on one side until it no longer sags. If possible, the bike can initially stand on the side stand. Otherwise a helper should hold the motorcycle.

4. Stand up: Then tighten the opposite side to straighten the motorcycle. Then fold in the side stand and tighten the belts alternately until the motorcycle is straight and stable.

5. Dressing: Finally, secure the stern on the left and right. Cover metal and lacquer parts so that no ugly scuff marks remain. Basically, make sure that the belts are not tightened too much.

6. Secure: After tensioning, secure the belts so that they cannot loosen while driving. To open, proceed in reverse order. If possible, fold out the side stand again.
