The Shoei NXR has been available for a long time. Now the Japanese helmet manufacturer has brought a self-tinting visor onto the market, which we were allowed to try out.

When you put on a textile jacket for the first time, you don’t always know immediately whether you like it, whether it fits really well and is just as practical as the previous one. With a motorcycle helmet, things are usually different: when you slip in, you have to feel comfortable, nothing should press, scratch or smell chemical.

the Shoei NXR is a prime example of this: easy entry, a firm fit, soft, removable upholstery, effective ventilation on the chin, forehead, top and back of the head and a classic double-D closure. In contrast to some other helmets, the cutouts on the ears are very generous, so even large ones don’t fold away. The chinstrap fits so that the larynx has a free path: great! A breath deflector and a chin cover are included.

It is advisable to mount both. In cool temperatures, the visor equipped with Pinlock remains absolutely fog-free and the wind does not creep nastily into the helmet. The four differently sized outer shells offer weight and aerodynamic advantages. The NXR weighs 1350 grams in the cool Stimuli-TC-10 decor in size M. The self-tinting visor, which is available separately for 149.95 euros, has absolutely proven itself in everyday life. An annoying visor change is just as superfluous as a sun visor, which the helmet does not have anyway. In the dark you have a clear view, when the sun shines it darkens.

Conclusion

The Shoei NXR convinced in the practical test with good equipment, great fit and good workmanship. The self-tinting visor also scored well. Only the locking system of the visor could be improved.
