Electric tricycle with new tilting technology

The Swiss company vRbikes has built an electric tricycle that curves like a motorcycle. You don’t need a motorcycle license for this.

D.he three-wheeled electric scooter vR3 City was developed by vRbikes in Switzerland. It is intended to create a new form of urban mobility and initially move through Swiss conurbations from spring 2020. At 4.5 meters, the tricycle’s turning circle is extremely small. Maneuvering in narrow streets should therefore not be a problem. The continuous output of the two built-in electric motors is 4 kW and, according to the manufacturer, should be maintained by the 130 Ah battery for around 120 kilometers.

The vR3 City is charged via the normal 230 volt socket.

To enable this range, the vR3 City recuperates energy in push mode. Controlled deceleration is implemented by three disc brakes. The vR3 City can be charged at any standard 230 volt socket. The charger is permanently installed on the vehicle.

Tilting technology for a two-wheeler feeling

The two rear wheels of the vR3 City, which are each guided on their own swing arm, are 80 centimeters apart and are individually driven. A special suspension enables the driver to lean into the curve as if on a two-wheeled vehicle.

The vR3 City leans into the curve in the style of a two-wheeler.

The electric tricycle is approved for one person and can be driven at a maximum speed of 45 km / h without a motorcycle license (class L2e required). Thanks to the so-called Safe Stop-System, which keeps the vehicle upright when stationary, the feet do not have to be put down after stopping and the Safe Parking-System prevents rolling away when parking on the mountain.

vR3 also available as a transport tricycle

A modular construction system for the vR3 model should also enable it to be used as a transport vehicle. VRbikes specifies up to 1,000 liters of transport volume and 270 kilograms of payload. To this end, a widening of the track is planned. The tilting technology is optionally available for the transport vehicles. The market launch will start in spring 2020. The vR3city is offered from the equivalent of just under 8,100 euros.

Individual structures should offer up to 1000 liters of storage space.

Conclusion

The vR3 City from vRbikes uses a new tilting technique. We are curious to see what the actual driving characteristics of this concept will be. As a slim transport vehicle for urban areas, the vR3 has a good chance if the real range and performance are right.
