Oh look, it works

With all the talents that characterize such a perfectly normal Honda CBF 1000: It doesn’t really stir up. Honda dealer Wellbrock took on this mishap and turned the inconspicuous creature into a real street horror.

It has to be that color. Yes, definitely. It was definitely this color that made the difference. Bombay Orange Metallic. Who came up with this color for a motorcycle that is otherwise as exciting as a Kathe Kruse doll? Seriously, Honda offers Bombay Orange as standard for the CBF.
They have something that doesn’t fit here Wellbrock & Co. (www.wellbrock.com, phone 04298/3254) recognized immediately. And immediately made the motorcycle the color. Greedy, racy, garish. Which was not so easy in view of the very good starting position.
On the other hand: Basically, a dark panel is enough to double the CBF’s potential threat. But the North Germans did not have half measures in mind. Nails were made with heads. Specifically, this means: engine tuned, chassis tightened, sound tuned, carbon imitation on every corner, new handlebars, new pegs, polished rims ?? all in all, a package of measures that turns the CBF into a completely new Honda.
But one after another. Everything is different when you sit up. Instead of the original Honda convent student handlebar, a Renthal flat iron stretches six centimeters further to the right and left. In addition, a fine, adjustable BKG footrest system, which is fixed to Hornet mounting plates and, in addition to a more acute knee angle, ensures significantly more ground clearance. A new, more dynamic and front-wheel-oriented seating experience is finished.
But that is only the beginning. Where the standard CBF exhaust system does its best to acoustically deny the Fireblade genes of the 1000cc engine, the Leo Vince Evo 2 titanium system exposes spilled genetic material. Not chubby loud, but so snappy that man and machine are like old athletes
remember, it barks with every burst of gas from the silencers, which strive towards the sky much more decisively towards the rear than the good originals.
So much for stand performance. So that the Wellbrock-CBF did not disappoint when driving, the Northmen also tackled the engine and chassis with determination. In brief: Compression increased from 11.1 to 11.8 to one, milled exhaust ducts, cleanly adapted Power Commander. In addition, the fork was revised and converted to variable preload and rebound damping, and the shock absorber was given hydraulic spring preload and rebound adjustment. The result: a CBF that gets off to a much more robust start than the series and is therefore also able to fully convince in dynamic terms. 105 HP on the clutch, the test bench attests to a fuller power and torque curve compared to the original 98 and practically from 4000 rpm, which is also reflected in the driving performance (see box). It is also gratifying that the good manners of the
Motors did not fall by the wayside. Quite smooth throttle response, spontaneous response ?? everything as usual. And yet the increase in temperament is more than noticeable.
The fact that the Wellbrock-CBF looks much more lively than its series counterpart is not just due to the engine. The chassis curve is also reflected. The tighter coordination of fork and shock absorber reduces comfort a little, but ensures a far more direct driving experience. Prepared in this way, the Wellbrock-CBF sticks out in the corners as if at speed and with a lot of pull on the chain, can be guided excellently in alternating curves on the wide handlebar, proves to be a real asset compared to the Honda CBF interpretation. The only thing missing is a fine sports rubber instead of the standard Michelin Pilot Road for cornering happiness. In view of the steep conversion prices (see above), it doesn’t make the cabbage any more fat. But even better: You are smart and save on one or the other plastic part in order to invest this money in a set of tires. This will certainly not harm the Bombay effect, it will do the performance good.
