Crystal clear: a motorcycle brand that sees itself as as sporty as Ducati can only celebrate on the racetrack. For the tenth time, the manufacturer from Bologna organized the largest Ducati meeting in the world at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” – on the slopes, in the paddock and along the Italian Adriatic Sea, from Rimini to Riccione.

Over 90,000 fans

Over 90,000 fans celebrated in Misano.

And it turned out to be a successful festival, especially since a particularly large number of fans followed the call of the Reds this year: the event recorded 91,596 visitors in the three days from July 20 to 22, 13 percent more than at the last WDW two years ago and a new one record.

Under the motto “Sound of Passion” offered Ducati A thrilling program – to watch, but also to participate, from the basketball tournament to the Monster Garage Contest to the stirring lap on the racetrack as a passenger on one of the two two-seater Desmosedici GP racers, piloted by Randy Mamola and Franco Battaini. As a special gift to all Ducatisti who had traveled, there was once again a hermetically sealed closed room in which visitors could take an exclusive look at a brand new motorcycle of the next model year.

The racing stars fought at the Race of Champions.

The first highlight was the motorcycle parade, open to all, from Misano to Rimini, 20 kilometers away, on Friday evening, where the police ensured clear roads and extremely rapid progress. The many spectators at the roadside, who applauded the colorful and noisy caravan and celebrated enthusiastically, ensured the incomparable Italian flair. On Saturday, the “Race of Champions”, for which Ducati sent twelve MotoGP and Superbike riders out onto the track, rose from the GP stars Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo to the particularly acclaimed former Superbike champion Troy Bayliss, who despite his has put a lot of effort into it for 49 years. After a ride in the gravel he only crossed the finish line last – the victory went to test driver Michele Pirro – but leads in a different way: the specially painted Panigale V4 S machines on which the race was held are still standing until the next one The weekend is up for auction on eBay, and by far the highest bids so far have been received for Bayliss’ machine with the starting number “2 + 1”. Only one machine from ex-GP world champion Casey Stoner would have achieved more, but he was present at the WDW, but did not take part in the race because he is still convalescing after an operation on his shoulder. The “Race of the Champions” was followed live by more than half a million people on Facebook alone, as Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali announced at the press conference.
