Yamaha seems to want to add an electrically powered scooter to its two-wheeler portfolio in Europe. On February 15, 2021, the motorcycle manufacturer registered the name E01 with the European Patent Office (EUIPO). It was registered under Nice Class 12 and can therefore be used for vehicles. The EUIPO specifically lists the use for electric two-wheelers.

E-scooter with a sporty cut

With the name E01, thoughts jump back to the Tokyo Motor Show 2019. There, the Japanese had presented a study of an electric scooter named accordingly. the Yamaha E01 is a sporty, electrically driven commuter model for the city – its performance is comparable to a 125 cm³ scooter – can be charged quickly and should offer a long range, comfort and much more when driving within the city. The design, the high step-through and the large wheels are somewhat reminiscent of the Max scooter models from Yamaha.

If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.

I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.

A small, agile electric moped is definitely fun.

None at all.

Conclusion

Yamaha already has electric scooters at the start in Asia. Now the leap onto the European stage seems to be pending. Designed for the 125cc class, an electric scooter is a good option for urban traffic.
