The development stop of the racing cars announced at the beginning of the 2020 season also leads to Yamaha to use the technical basis from 2020. However, Takahiro Sumi, Project Leader Yamaha YZR M1, emphasized that Yamaha had tried to increase engine performance without changing the engine. The main focus is on aerodynamics. Performance should be the row four with the Crossplane firing order have more than enough: around 250 hp meet a weight of 157 kilos.

So it can still be assumed that there is a row four with 999 cubic. Power: roughly 250 hp. Weight: 157 kilograms, dry.

Rossi continues to be there

Sumi also stated that Valentino Rossi despite his move to the Yamaha SRT team, he continues to work closely with the factory engineers to develop the motorcycles over the season. Against the background of Rossi’s nine world championship titles versus one from Moto3 in Vinales and a few Quartararo podium places, a sensible idea.

Maverick Vinales

Vinales joins the Factory Yamaha crew in 2017 and immediately takes two GP wins in a row. This year he is third in the drivers’ championship. Although the following season proved to be difficult, the Spaniard kept his motivation high and won the race at Phillip Island. He ended 2018 in fourth place overall, just five points behind his teammate in third place. In 2019 he achieved two more Grand Prix victories, one in Assen and one in Sepang, and at the end of the season he won the overall bronze medal again. 2020 is another challenging year. Although the Spaniard is fighting for the world title up to two races before the end, he finished in sixth place. Vinales starts 2021 with the number 12.

Fabio Quartararo

Quartararo is a new addition to the Yamaha factory team, but he is a household name among MotoGP fans thanks to his successful years with the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team. In his MotoGP debut year in 2019, he took a total of seven podiums (five second places and two third places) to end his first season on a YZR-M1 in fifth place, earning him the title “Rookie of the Year” brings in. The young Frenchman also started 2020 with a bang and secured his first victory in the premier class on the first lap in Jerez, which he repeated the following week on the same track. His third victory follows in Catalunya, from then on he could not achieve any more victories. In the 2020 overall ranking, he finished eighth. Quartararo starts 2021 with the number 20.
