  • Yamaha XSR 125 cheaper than MT-125
  • Consumption of only 2.1 liters
  • Completely independent design
  • Prices, colors and availability
  • And the Tracer 125?
  • Conclusion

In Germany had Yamaha So far, two light motorcycles have been offered in the 125cc class, which is becoming more and more popular: the MT-125, which regularly fights for the registration crown with the KTM 125 Duke, and the sports car YZF-R125. From June the XSR 125 will join the Yamaha Sport Heritage School. For fans of classic lines and retro bikes.

Yamaha XSR 125 cheaper than MT-125

It is no surprise that the XSR 125 is technically based on the Yamaha MT-125. The real surprise is that Yamaha is really bringing the XSR 125 to Germany. The 125 cc is still booming here. The larger XSR models (XSR 700 and XSR 900) were never granted the success of the technically almost identical MT models. Which could also be due to juicy surcharges of around 700/800 euros between MT and XSR. And here comes another surprise: the XSR 125 is significantly cheaper at 4,649 euros than the MT-125 at 5,149 euros. That could be decisive for the success of the XSR 125.

Consumption of only 2.1 liters

The technical basis MT-125 is proven. The XSR 125 also comes with the 125 cm³ single with water cooling, variable four-valve technology and 15 hp at 10,000 tours. 11.5 Nm are applied to the crankshaft at 8,000 rpm. Naturally standardized to Euro 5, the XSR 125 should only consume 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers. Compared with the 11 liters of the new XSR tank, the 140 kilogram Yamaha should travel more than 500 kilometers. Respect, with regard to the range queens from MOTORRAD. In terms of chassis, the good values are also taken over: USB fork, ABS and the adult tires in 110 / 70-17 at the front and 140 / 70-17 at the rear on the 10-spoke rims flatter the dynamics and the eye.

Completely independent design

Speaking of the eye: Despite its technical origins, the XSR 125 does not resemble the MT at all. A completely new bodywork contributes to this, which in addition to the already mentioned tank also consists of a new front with LED round headlights. A new rear section with a continuous bench seat, short fender and the characteristic LED circular light of the XSR family hangs on the rear frame. Complemented by the details such as the triangular aluminum covers on the rear frame or the elongated XSR side covers. Stylistic devices of the XSR 700 and XSR 900 are not unknown. All in all, the new Yamaha XSR 125 can be attested to an independent appearance, it looks very grown-up in the pictures. To personalize the small XSR, Yamaha offers a wide range of accessories ex works. Including an Akrapovic exhaust and optical gimmicks.

Prices, colors and availability

Yamaha would like to offer the new XSR 125 to dealers from June. The price tag, including the transfer, will read 4,649 euros (4,399 euros vehicle price plus 250 euros for ancillary costs), but you can choose between the colors Redlilne, Tech Black and Impact Yellow.

And the Tracer 125?

In Thailand, where the small XSR has been in service for more than 155, there is also a Tracer-15 with the same displacement. A Tracer 125 would be part of the 125 class and with a view to the B196 drivers a logical step in this country.
